Guitar-related: Those moments (few and far between) where you suddenly realise how crappy you play, considering all the hours of āguitar-related-activityā you have invested over the years (incl. this forum ).
Thankfully they donāt last
ā¦ and people who create a repeat Christmas song thread instead of posting in the one Rogier already created. (only joking )
It simply takes time. At first it was the same for me, I couldnāt maintain the shape, the hand got tired very quickly. But the majority of the songs I play have power chords (very often only power chords) so I had no choice but to keep playing them and eventually they became natural and very easy to play.
@brianlarsen , if we are getting into ālife in generalā, this will be a long threadā¦
But you are so right, especially as the world gets more complicated and crazy and of course we get olderā¦sigh.
Another frustration in guitar is the thumb over. I have average hands for my size which is smaller in general and I like wide nuts, so thumb overs are just not feasible on the guitars I play the most.
Then I try and learn a song from someone like the āSixString Fingerpickingā guy, and he casually throws his thumb over the 6th and even 5th string on a classical guitar with a 52mm nut.
Yes, itās something i have to get used to. I was just expecting that after quickly picking up the F barre and then easily moving that shape up and down the neck, that power chords would be a quite easy. Turns out that muting strings is not so easy.
Iāll get there in the end!
Actually, I donāt skip any modules because, even if a module doesnāt look as interesting as some others, itās often a nice surprise and turns out to be very enjoyable. I wasnāt too excited about learning finger style and really wanted to move onto module 12, but then it turned out that I really enjoyed finger style and immediately wanted to do more.
After all the licks we have learnt during BLIM there are 2 in the last unit that are doing my head in. There is a slow medley containing these licks at just 50 BPM so super super slow but with the equivalent of 24 notes in a 4 beat bar that works out at a crazy 300 BPM. But I wonāt be beaten by them oh no sir, they will be tamed !!
Funnily enough, Toby, I came across a lick with sextuplets in it the other day and it looked wild but I gave it a go. The best I could do was split the beat in two and count it as:
I smashed my Kemper by tripping over it now got to sort out getting it fixed; more
That and I STILL canāt play Key to the Highway which I marked down as the No1 Blues song to learn this year. Itās worse than that, I havenāt even started practising it because I havenāt decided how and which version to learn it yet. The Eric Clapton version is not really my favourite one. I really like the recordings of Brownie McGhee but I have to figure that one out by myself so there you go. Excuses excuses excuses and annoyance with myself.
