@Dave_Birnie Hey Dave, this one from Deborah is for you.
My wife often questions my taste in music too, but I know what I like!
Hi David, I enjoyed the quiter vibe of your rendition of what’s up…it’s not an easy song to play and sing (properly) at the same time, well it’s not for me, but you did a good job on it.
The second recording I found just superb, even if I didn’t know the song…so smooth and relaxed, also when you picked the individual notes. Also your singing is very enjoyable. Bravo!
But David, you’re nailing songs! There’s so much value! The next Justin’s Club on November 14th might be what you need.
Thanks again Dan, glad you enjoy my efforts
@Silvia80 Thanks Silvia. So glad you enjoyed it. And What’s Up? also has some really challenging vocal moments for me as well, so am celebrating a smoother performance of it.
Clubs a bit of a challenge for me to join, due to timing midweek.
Hi David. I’m just catching up on some forum stuff. I didn’t make the OM on Saturday morning and haven’t watched the video yet.
I always look forward to your contributions and enjoyed both songs, especially Powderfinger, a song which although being a NY fan, I wasn’t familiar with. Great vocals on both numbers along with dynamics in the strum patterns and some cool little picked lines.
In another thread somewhere in the forum you mentioned your demon ‘comparison’. You needn’t worry about that at all. You stand loud and proud in your performances. Others here will be suffering from that demon after watching your performance. It’s an unfortunate and difficult to avoid condition in most things we do in life.
ps. When I saw the hat I thought perhaps we were in for some Oasis!
@sairfingers Thanks Gordon. I guess NY’s catalog is like Dylan’s . . . vast, so never going to know all the great songs.
Appreciate the compliment, though I still consider myself a basic strum a dum dumma, nothing too special. But I do enjoy myself, and still sometimes can’t quite believe it when I think of how I struggled when I started nearly 8 years ago.
As for the hat, I thought why not. But quite unlikely to ever get Oasis from me
David, What a great performance of both of these. Powderfinger was my fav just because of the song layout and guitar parts, but you had me captured with the the vox and lyrics on What’s Up. Love the sound of your guitar, too. Really, really nice stuff here. Hope you’re doing well!
Oh David, I felt some real emotion from you on What’s up. Especially the part about praying every single day.
On Powderfinger, I loved your strumming and strum picking.
Both, really good songs. Good job on both. Oh, and I loved the tone on your guitar.
@oldhead49 @pkboo3 Thanks Dave and Pam, appreciate your comments, your support and encouragement. The reply would be pretty much same for both, so shall type it all once.
Powderfinger is such a great song and allows some lattitude in what you play between verses. Of course a harmonica while strumming would be fabulous. Glad the little picked interlude turned out well. My ear is not the best, so to compose something that worked is an extra pleasing moment, however simple it is.
Always pleasantly suprised and extra appreciative of comments about the singing. Never was a strength . . . . hmm . . . . playing also still quite rudimentary . . . . so means a lot to hear that.
As for the guitar, I think the use of the PlayAcoustic really helps. The electronics on the guitar aren’t bad but the use of the BodyRes plus some reverb, delay, chorus and in this version the double up and Haas Effect help. Try to keep it subtle, a light touch to improve but not that people hear a lot of obvious reverb and delay. So those comments also mean a lot.
Thanks again. We’ve all come such a long way since we met up here in the old Forum. Means a lot to still be together here.
Hi. No, we didn’t meet at the Team Meeting. I’ve only just started helping out. Maybe next time though?
Nice to hear you can already already play barre chords. Sorry for suggesting something you can already do.
Keep up the good work. I look forward to the next Open Mic.
No apology needed, Dave. Always good to offer useful and relevant tips.
Here’s hoping we meet soon
Two well performed songs, David. Great vocals and solid guitar playing. Good to see you back posting recordings.
@Socio Thanks so much, James. The Virtual OMs are giving me something to work towards that at least encourages playing, even if not practicing in a disciplined way.
