Beginner Question About “Setup”

Thanks Ashu, that’s helpful! I think as a complete and utter beginner I’d fall clearly in the “good enough for most people” setup. I do find it interesting however that I have seen so many recommendations elsewhere that a “proper” setup is essential for any new guitar purchase. Maybe it’s more important if you’re getting something straight off the rack which tons of patrons have fussed with?

My understanding is that guitars need setups either for personal preference or due to how they are stored, handled, the temperature and humidity differences they are exposed to etc.

Guitars are sensitive things. You will find many posts in the community about proper guitar care during cold winters when the heating inside homes lowers humidity below optimal range for the guitar.

Sweetwater and other good stores try to offset changes due to temperature and humidity, by checking, adjusting and storing in climate controlled environments and shipping overnight where possible.

I’ve bought guitars from a local shop, and Amazon. Neither played as well as the admittedly more expensive ones from Sweetwater. Both played better after a good setup.
