Thanks for the encouragement! Best wishes on your own progress! I don’t know if anyone ever overcomes the conflicted feelings about putting a recording of one’s playing out in public. My attempts at this recording were all problematic because at one point or other I botched the playing so badly it ruined what came after. Maybe you won’t have that problem, but if you do, it’s probably better to cut your losses, pick the best of what you consider a bad batch of attempts and put it out there. Often we’re our own severest critics. My next recording will be put in the “Audio-Video of You Playing” topic at some point in the near future, I hope.
This is so great Jim! As others have said, you’re definitely more than ready enough to get into the regular section. Your soothing voice adds a nice texture to this song, and your strumming is smooth and constantly in rhythm. I also love that you switched up the strumming inbetween verses and picking out single notes whilst singing - not easy at all! Congrats on putting your first video out and hope to see many more!

Hello, I am Avishk Kashyap.
I started learning guitar through Justin’s site and app 6 months ago and trying to practise daily. I have reached grade 3 and working on singing and playing at the same time. I can play barre chords but working on switching smoothly between barre and open chords. I have also learnt basics of legato and string bending in tune and tried ‘Let It be’ Beatles solo which I will practise more and upload later.

I woul love to know your suggestions and feedbacks on where I can improve. I am working on better coordination between singing and playing. And also trying to breathe better and put less strain on my vocal cords.

To help with this you want to do Semi-Occluded Vocal Tract Exercises.
There are many youtube videos on how to do this. Here’s one example.

@tophatjm Excellent rendition of LIB, Jim. You made it your own for sure, yet kept many of the elements of the original version. Good job on the break and timing too. Great vocals. Good to keep it in a key you are comfortable in. And especially, congratulations on taking that big first step and posting a video of you playing. The feedback is always amazing.

Thanks for the encouragement! Will be awhile before I post any more recordings. In the middle of a move plus working through intermediate grade 4 and learning songs I can’t sing and play at the same time.

You got all the chords sounding clean and kept a steady rhythm going. Those are good foundations for what is to come next. You are certainly ready to move on to the next grade. Pick a few songs with the open chords that you know and have a go at them. That is a gorgeous looking guitar you’ve got.
