If he can, that would be a good move. The UMC204HD is currently only £15 more than the UMC202HD on Amazon.

Cheers,

Keith

Good idea. Strangely I’ve never sent anything back to Amazon. I’ll see what they say.

So I tried moving the amp power supply to one in the wall (not an extension lead) with no difference. Looking at Audacity the general background hum is as shown by the top bar in the screenshot below. The bottom one is when I have my guitar leant up against the amp which is how I generally leave when not practicing. With the amp off the hum disappears. Any ideas as it’s driving me mad!!

What guitar is it?

Does the hum stop if you touch the strings?
Do you get the hum if the guitar is unplugged from the amp (at the amp socket)? Does the volume control of the guitar make any difference?

Cheers,

Keith

It’s a Yamaha Pacifica.

Can’t check any of this now as the unit is packed up and ready to be returned to Amazon today. I’ll let you know when the new one arrives!

It arrived today and is now set up. The stereo/mono button is great as using mono puts the sound in the middle of my head!!

Found out what the hum was. It was feedback between amp and guitar.

I have a question about attaching speakers to the 204. I have a pair of KEF 8 ohm impedance but can’t see anywhere in the 204 manual if these will be OK.

Is anyone able to confirm if these will work with the 204 OK.

Not without a separate amplifier.

Audio interfaces are designed to work with powered monitor speakers, which have built-in amps.

If you already have an amplifier, you could take the main line outputs to a line -level in put on that.

I do have a spare amp. I’ll se if I can connect it up.

Is the plug for the 204 main line out a standard 6.35mm ‘guitar’ type?

The outputs are 6.35mm. They are balanced which means you can use a TRS cable if you have balanced inputs on your amp (which you almost certainly will NOT have).
But you can also use 6.35 mm TS cables for unbalanced use. For instance, you could use a 2 x 6.35mm to 2 x RCA cable which would go into most hifi amps.

Cheers,

Keith

Thaks.

I’m guessing that something like this would work.
