Whow David that is pretty close to what I picked out the other day. On sale at Guitar Guitar.
Michael
Next post that I see from you both needs to be a combo NGD topic
Itâs your money and your choice Michael, @MAT1953
Personally, I prefer the look of the Transparent Cherry and Rosewood fretboard, although Iâm not over keen on the white pickguard. I think it would look better without a pickguard, but then the screw holes wouldnât look great!
As for acoustic guitarsâŚwell I wouldnât know where to start!
Simmer down James, @Socio
Thereâs research to be done and mulling over to be done and money to be stacked up!
David @BurnsRhythm
In terms of colour, I would look for something that looks like post box/fire engine red. Most of the cars we have owned as a family are some form of red and yes red is my favourite colour and has always been.
If you know nothing about guitars as a beginner, then it is very difficult to know what to look for in a guitar. When I bought my acoustic guitar, had a classical guitar before that, I did a lot of research and had an idea what I was looking for. Went to a big guitar store and they didnât have the particular guitar that I had decided on, but they had similar one, body depth was thinner, the rest was the same. It was towards the end of pandemic, so I ordered it online direct from the manufacture. Fortunately, I made a good choice, but it could easily have gone the wrong way. If I went for another acoustic guitar, I would know a lot more about things to look at.
I would be a beginner in terms of electric guitar, if you would excurse the pun I have picked up a few things in the community about pickups and some other general points about an electric but if I had one in my hand I would not be sure what to look for.
James @Socio
Donât hold your breath I donât think there is likely to be any joint NGD coming any day soon.
Very true, Michael.
When I bought my Strat, I bought it online, unseen, untried. I already had a strat style guitar (Burns) so it was always going to be similar. If they had it in my local store I would have gone and tried it - but they didnât so I took the plunge!
An expensive plunge, I know, but itâs a Fender Ultra II and my thinking was that itâs bound to be good. And I wasnât wrong. Itâs a great guitar!!
All that said, I certainly wonât do the same thing with an acoustic. Iâll go to the local store and try a few. I donât want to spend a lot of money on an acoustic because I know Iâll play electric a lot more. It needs to be good though. It needs to feel good and sound good. Looks? Well I dunno.
If youâre in the market for an electric then take your time, have a look round and definitely try some.
Same with amps. Try them and ask for advice in store.
Katana is obviously a popular choice. The Gen3âs have an âAcousticâ channel. Itâs not to make your electric sound like an acoustic, itâs a special channel for acoustic guitars.
Whether itâs as good as a dedicated acoustic amp - I donât know - again, ask in store.
David @BurnsRhythm
Wise words.
If you have a guitar of any sort and play then you have some basic knowledge that you can take to trying an A to E or E to A. If I ever make to move then I would talk to other members of the guitar club, although we are called âŚâŚAcoustic Guitar Club nearly all of the experienced ones have electric guitars and some play the lead guitar parts for some songs during performances.
One thing I would find slightly off putting is fiddling around with creating different tones, I have enough problems doing this with my acoustic when plugged in so much so I generally record it with a condenser mic. When I see them playing at the club they have multiple pedals, ahh to much to think about.
Michael
Ah yes, your friends at the Guitar Club. They have more experience than you so theyâre the ones to talk to and will be able to help you the most. Theyâll no doubt have differing opinions but youâll find a way to mould them into your own.
IfâŚwhen! you buy a Tele and amp, youâll fiddle about trying tones! I know I did!!
Iâve settled back now and donât fiddle about much. My amp probably has tons of tones but I take the view that Iâll find them - or at least some of them - as and when I need them.
I donât have any pedals other than a tuner and a footswitch for the amp. I certainly donât need any at the moment, maybe in the futureâŚ.who knows!
You know your own budget and will form your own ideas but my advice would be donât skimp on the amp!
If you can afford an amp that is more capable than you are right now, youâll grow into it.
David, happy to hear that you are enjoying the G4 Blues Lead lessons. I have just finished the first of the 5-licks but need to work on the practice solo and using them in an improvisations. I think that I will be using the blues lessons from grade 6 and also get the grade 5 blues lead transcription course. I already have the book of blues solos. I hope you continue to have fun.
Thanks for checking my log out, Steve.
Iâve ditched the G4 Blues Lead and started on the Blues Immersion course today. Maybe itâs one for you in the future!
Itâs going to be an intense 6 monthsâŚ.but here we go!!
Good. Iâll be interested to hear how Immersion course goes for you.
Hope you have a great time with BLIM! Keep us informed how it goes! Iâm already curious to read about your experiences.
Hereâs a starter for your curiosity, Andrea.
Unit 1 looks like a mountain to climb. There are 29 lessonsâŚ!
Not to worry though, Iâm on the lower slopes plotting a route upwards.
Iâll try to update at the end of each unit.
David @BurnsRhythm
If and when the time comes I am sure I would get plenty of advice from the guitar club members. I know some of the experienced one have advised those less knowledgeable about a guitar purchase.
As far as Amps go seems a lot to think about but donât think I will go down that rabbi hole just yet.
