A wee update from me… I’me still working away on the fingerstyle stuff on Level 5. It’s slow progress, but see above for some great advice from @MollyT.
Progress has been slowed recently due to health issues with one of my dogs, which has taken up a lot of time and head space. However, at least it’s given me some inspiration to write a song, and since my dog’s name is Rey (yes, after the Star Wars character!), I’ve started putting together a wee song called Rey of Sunshine. This also sounds like a good title for and entry for @GrumpyMac’s summer song AVOYP.
Hey guys. I found a few. But I will mention this one in particular because its totally rad and one of my long time favorite bands Pearl Jam.
The song is “Just Breath”. It was released in 2009 on the album “Backspacer”. It was originally ment to be the chorus for the song “Tuolumne” from the sound track to the sad 2007 movie “Into The Wild”. But it developed into its own.
Eddie Vedder really sounds amazing using both Pattern 1and pattern 3 from the list the patterns Justin teaches us.
There is a little variation on a couple of them but the song sticks with those 2 patterns throughout the whole song depending on which string the root is on and it is amazing.
Like most finger picking its the speed and a couple of chord Voicings (not difficult) that make the song hard. It took me a long time to finally get it. If I dont keep it in my practice. Its really easy to get rusty.
I didn’t have a clue that song used patterns 1 & 3! Probably the speed it’s played at compared to the speed i play! It is indeed an amazing song. I still remember listening to Backspacer for the first time while driving to pick up my wife somewhere. As soon as I picked her up i told her “You need to listen to THIS song!”
These are both good: I’d pick the second if forced to choose favourite. One refinement you could try is to reduce the drum track volume and try some variations of drum patterns: both pieces are slightly less melodic because of the almost regimental drum beat. Look forward to hearing more.
