i have been following your progress with Dee, and as a result I took at look at Justin’s lesson and Randy Rhoads playing it. This could have been a mistake because I think i might take up the challenge of learning it.
I do have an old Classical Guitar
Thanks for the encouragment Rick, I’ve been reasoning on your suggestion…I set my mind on working out a practice routine for Classical Guitar Slurs this weekend, and work on that away from Dee for a couple of weeks. This lesson seems a good one
In the meanwhile I’ll just enjoy revisiting and consolidating my small repertoire, I don’t wish to learn a new piece at the moment since I’m also learning new stuff on the Acoustic Guitar and developing a Chord Melody as well.
Thanks for the video…it’s of some consolation ![]()

YAY!
Welcome to our club Adrian, Jason and I are very well happy to have you aboard! ![]()
I won’t post here for a couple of weeks now but please feel free to let me know how it’s going if you wish to. Jason @ontime you too!
Yes ![]()
A video Update on how the practice on the tricky bars is going. I avoided practicing Dee for a while and did some practice on the Legato techniques instead, way less than I should have to be honest.
I’m a bad observer, Justin’s thumb on bar 21 is behind the 2nd fret…why did I invent to position it behind the third fret?
Ah…yes, it was probably more comfortable to hammer on the 4th fret with ring finger! I’m correcting it but you see in the video there’s still some issue, probably with the position of the hand and ring finger can’t reach close to the fret.
I’m pushing through…when I’ll feel ready I’ll try to incorporate this tricky passage without tapping the foot, it’ll be challenging without the clear reference of the beat…I can’t speed the process but just keep going and hopefully develop to that. In the meanwhile it seems a good idea to learn a few more bars as well.
I love learning this beautiful piece of Music ![]()

Super start - and it’s a such a nice piece!
I played it for my Gran when I was maybe 13, and it was the first time she ‘actually’ liked something I played and she was super proud, because she bought me my first guitar!
Good luck!
@JustinGuitar Thanks Teacher, I know you’re very fond of it
You play it so beautifully! I love the phrasing and clarity of your rendition.
Thank you for the lesson, it’ s a perfect challenge for me, balacing what I can do and what I can learn…and I’m learning so much from Dee!
Thats a really tough passage. The one leading into that also for me. Sounds great Silia
, you are getting there with it. Even from the first until the last its sounding smoother.
And I love the fact and the way you sharing your learning path with us, Silvia!
Your dedication is admirable and your latest update sounds so lovely already. It’s not flawless, but this piece is just hard. What makes it sound so beautiful to me is the feeling you convey while playing. ![]()
Take your time, take a break whenever you need, but eventually, you will get there. I know you will and I’m delighted to watch you on your way. ![]()
Thank you for sharing your journey here, Silvia!
Thanks Jason! Here’s again the link to the clip on YouTube, it might be helpful.

it’ll never sound as much smooth as it should but I’m humbly ok with the thought ![]()
That’s really kind of you Lisa, I’m really glad to read you feel it!
Oh no, no more breaks now…I started yesterday aiming to add just a couple of bars but ended up today having them all to the last one pretty much already under my fingers (@Ontime Jason no particular difficulties in the last few bars
…I’m sure you’ll be happy to read
)

And this last part is soooo beautiful…I could practice it for hours and do hundreds of repetitions without getting bored! Here’s the clip, for my mindful listening last night and today while I was practicing.

A few notes to better focus next practice session
…but, first of all, it feels amazing to play Dee to the last harmonics! Wow! ( with many innacuracies!)
-
First G chord with the triplet: build more strenght and confidence
-
Harmonics: achieve a bit more awareness of the light touch
-
The switch Bm - G: build more confidence in adding down the two fingers, the position of the hand seems correct and the fingers are nicely curled - it is very likely I can be more accurate if I don’t panic - also I need to push a bit harder because there’s some nasty action in this part of the neck
-
The rest to the next “GwithTriplet” chord: breath, keep calm, take your time, be focussed…even if the rest should be shorter, there’s no way I can make it shorter - the best option seems to accept it
-
Do some more repetitions from the fast legato 16th notes to the B7
-
Work to better incorporate bar 21 in the flow of Music, no matter the quality of hammer-ons/flick-offs (softer better than louder)
-
The H/on+F/o with pinky on the 7th fret: I surely can work to improve it - same for ring finger on the 9th fret
-
Some more repetitions on the last few bars I just added are needed - keep the flow going
-
The jump to the 7th fret: I need more confidence to land the fingers down - I need to be able to “take measures” automatically…repetitions repetitions and some more repetitions!
-
The chord changes here also need to be consolidated, though they don’t feel hard
-
I suspect I will need to be really accurate in lifting up fingers and quickly get to the next chord so that the notes ring out as long as needed, especially in this last part.

…oh I was forgetting…more listening to the whole piece, maybe 80 or 85% the original speed…this is going to make the real difference!
I’m watching a couple of recordings I made yesterday, from bar 22 on the flow is really bad
…indulgently sparing your ears the pain ![]()
But bars 1 - 21 are going quite well, I think, technique will improve in the years.
I’m trying to imitate and go as close as I can to Justin’s phrasing because it would be too difficult for me to do otherwise at this point.
Sounding good Silvia, looks a tricky piece to master. ![]()
Thanks for listening Toby and for your kind words!
I think it is tricky to me also because when I started working on it (end of December 2025) it was so much above my level of competence on the guitar; I feel I’ve been growing a lot since then thanks to it
Has anyone ever told you that your fingers on a fretboard are like a ballerina on the dance floor? Or I may have told you that before myself. -
I really enjoy your playing and stage performance.
Yes, you did Pam…thank you for such a nice compliment ![]()
I’m really glad you enjoy my fingers’ attempts at improving!
