Dirty Deeds Done Dirt Cheap & Sunday Morning Coming Down

Hi everyone,

Taking a little break from rocking out on the new SG to get back to my bread and butter. Here’s my latest cover: Sunday Morning Coming Down—a Johnny Cash classic originally written by Kris Kristofferson and covered by plenty of others over the years. Just goes to show what great songwriting can do!

I hope you enjoy it, and I’d love to hear any suggestions for improvement.

P.S. I know it’s a bit of a shameless plug, but I’m working on growing my YouTube channel. If you’re not subscribed yet and feel like supporting, I’d really appreciate it!

Thanks. I really enjoyed that. Yes you took a break from the SG, but it still made an appearance in the background of the video

‘Back in Black’ / ‘Back to (the Man in) Black’… Who gives a Tosh?
It all sounds good to these ears
Another solid cover under your belt.
Bravo!
I’m not sure if they’re similar chord progressions, but I almost expected you to sing:
Freedom’s just another word for nothin’ left to lose :musical_score: :musical_notes: in the chorus

I’m curious as to your motivation behind this? (No worries if you don’t feel like sharing)
Keep it up, Cowboy! :smiling_face_with_sunglasses:

Love this song, thanks for sharing.

Nicely played Tosh cheers HEC

Hi Tosh,

Wasn’t familiar with song but sounds good to me.
Vocal has a good tone - certainly in keeping.

Really good version of the song Tosh. Your voice (as we all know😃) suits these Cash and in this case, Kristofferson, songs. I’ve always loved the line “…my cleanest dirty shirt”.

The only comment I’d make is to learn your lyrics off by heart which will then enable you to make eye contact with your camera and engage with and have a rapport with your audience. This, I think, is important if you want to build an online following on YouTube (or indeed any form of public performance).

Nice job, fun song. Perfect rhythm and voicing throughout.

Hey Tosh,
Nice… I had not heard this one, I think. Good job on it!

Lets see, by my count you have at least 1 guitar too many for the wall rack. As I said, make the wife happy and buy another Loooonger one!

Then, you will have an excuse to fill it up!

I’ve always liked your stuff sir, can’t believe I didn’t subscribe sooner. LOL

Sounded good to my ears, no nits from my side. Keep playing and recording on a consistent basis and I’m sure your counts will increase. Although you seem to be doing really well as it is with over 250 subbys, Play on playa!

Thanks for asking, Brian! I’ve had my channel for years, mostly doing acoustic country and folk covers (really it all started when I took Justin’s beginners course). Anyway, as you know, lately I’ve been getting back into electric guitar and rock covers too. I’m trying to grow the channel because I really enjoy sharing music and connecting with others who love the same styles. I’ve made some friends along the way on both the YT side and here is well. It’s also a fun challenge to improve my playing, recording, and video production. I figured asking for subscribers in a community like this might help me reach more people who appreciate the kind of music I post.

Here’s my cover of Dirty Deeds Done Dirt Cheap! This is such a great song for working on your power chords — it’s simple on the surface but definitely a little challenging with the quick chord changes, like a lot of AC/DC songs tend to be.

I actually remember learning this one several years ago right after finishing Justin’s Beginner Course, and I had a much harder time with it back then. Feels good to see some progress playing the same song a few years later, haha.

I recorded this using my Audio-Technica AT2035 condenser mic and my Orange Crush 20RT amp. The dirty channel on that amp, paired with my SG, really sings for this kind of tone in my opinion.

Would love to hear what you think!

Cracking job, mate! You’ve got a great tone and attitude spot on. :guitar: Maybe just tighten up the chord changes a bit and let the groove breathe, but it’s sounding great overall — proper rock ’n’ roll feel. Keep at it, you’re nailing it! :sign_of_the_horns:

You did an excellent job on this: the chords are truly powerful and there are some subtle dynamic variations too. Very well played!

I really enjoyed that. Nice to hear such a great tone on the SG. Sounded just right with the Orange Crush. I have one (the 35RT) which has been relegated to my 2nd amp since getting a Roland Blues cube. I originally intended to sell it but just couldn’t give it up because of the dirty channel. So I get it out when doing some stuff with distortion.

I could see you were having fun!!!

Nice man! Keep it up, love me some ACDC! Thought you did great!

@DavidP

since the rule is one AVOYP per month maybe you can merge this topic with this one please ?
