Do you have cats or dogs in your life?

I have had many (too many), dogs and cats. Now we just have one cat, Penny.

One tired old cat who runs into the closet and yowls whenever I start to play. She’s not my biggest fan.

I’ve two cats right now, Cleopatra (12y) and Autumn (8y old).

Cleo is a keen observer of guitars and is working on her Jimi Hendrix play with your mouth technique:

Autumn prefers paper bags:

Over the years, I’ve had a parrot (Kiki, named after a parrot in an Enid Blyton book that I hope to rediscover some day), a Pomeranian, and for short stints - a rescued baby mongoose and a rescued baby snake, (not at the same time as the mongoose ). Rikki Tikki Tavi made an impression on me :+1:

We like our walrus. They are hard on furniture unfortunately.

I understand. Sometimes it don’t happen. We got Ollie from a no kill shelter when he was young enough to be malleable. He got put in a harness right away. He got put on the boat right away. That seemed to work.
My other cats that were already adults, it only kinda worked. Cat’s do what they want it seems. Looks like your dog likes a boat ride though. Dogs on boats was my inspiration for trying it with my cat.

Sorry for your loss and I couldn’t agree more. Dog, cat, Your pet, are family and the pain of loss don’t go away.

 yep, me too. Welcome to a great forum Gordon!

:), I really tried to have a dog. I got a puppy at one point. Unknown to me, I already had a cat that went out of it’s way to hate dogs. Poor little pup. The cat attacked it for 2 weeks before I decided to give it back to the folks we’d gotten the dog from. They wanted him back so it worked out. That was the point I got the idea of a boating cat. When we got Olllie he was groomed from square one for a harness and a boat.

I like your story better. My childhood cat was found under the hood of a car in the winter. I’ll leave it at that.

Excellent!

Cool, you have a cat that sings? She probably thinks the closet is the recording booth… Maybe…

A cool cat for sure. My cat I just lost like to mark my guitars by rubbing her face and teeth on them. I kinda worried about her putting teeth marks on my guitar. She didn’t, and now I wish she had. It would have been a purrfect reminder of her. All l got are pics of her loving my guitar though.

Great participation folks. Thanks so much.

Maybe I should have ask if folks here had pets or not in their lives? Now I’m wondering if musicians just like animals. Dogs or cats, or…
What great photos folks have of their furry family members. Thanks for sharing these photos with us.

My cat thinks she is Janis Joplin.

That’s pretty good inspiration!
Are ya starting a band?
You’ll be rich and famous in no time…

Yeah, I tried the same with my cats. We got both very young, not from a shelter, but they were “found” kittens. It seems cats are much more variable with how they can handle travel and new situations than dogs.

Yeah, my dog is cool with boats. He had experience with canoes before this one. But the tall ship was so big I’m not sure he realized the similarities. He rides in kayaks, too.

He also goes mountain biking. This backpack is kindof the “standard” way in case a place is busy or otherwise dangerous for him to be off-leash or if it’s too hot (he overheats easy, especially when he’s shaggy). And also in cases where I’ll be riding faster than he can run for very long. He likes it, but he’ll start whining and/or howling if I go too slow or if he sees someone ahead of me.

He’d much rather run, but the times/places he can do that off-leash are limited.

On-leash running with the bike is tricky, too. That can only happen when there’s space for him and the leash to not get tangled on anything, and times when we’re going about the same speed to avoid pulling. Usually that kind only happens on wide paved paths, but sometimes it can happen on gravel roads with long stretches of level ground (rare around here).

Also, gratuitous hiking picture.

don’t they all? when you’re trying to sleep.
