Good Chord/Scales for Kids

Hi & a Happy New Year to all

My nephew, who’s 7 years old, has started to learn guitar over the last couple of months and as it’s his birthday next week I want to get him something to help him on his journey.

So, could anybody out there recommend a goodChord and/or Scale book that suitable for young kids?

Many thanks,
Gareth.

I’d encourage staying away from scales especially at that young age. Sucks the joy out of playing unless you are learning scales for the right reason.

One tip a guy gave me when he teaches teenagers is to show them some open tunings and then it’s so easy to play a multitude of blues songs with just the 1, 4, 5 chords.

Hi Tony,
Thanks for the advice… I’ll suggest that to his Dad.
He actually likes scales, he’s playing the minor pentatonic with his eyes shut… literally

Why not put your nephew onto Justin Guitar?

Justin starts at the beginning. From this is a guitar, this is how you hold your guitar, this is how you tune your guitar. Then on and on.
They are lessons from square one.

edit. the scales will come in later lessons…
many w/pdf’s too…

Just food for thought…

Thanks HappyCat….

He’s already signed up for Justin :+1: That was the first thing I got them to do :grinning_face_with_big_eyes:

That’s all he needs.
The beginner course, rhythm, chords and songs.

He could be the exception to the rule. Keeping the sessions fun, particularly for kids. If he enjoys scales, far be it from me to suggest otherwise.

Haha… wish I enjoyed them as much as him  Even 5-10 mins a day on them is a slog for me!
