Thank you!!!
Hi Tod! Thank you so much for your kind words! I will share something eventually, when I actually learn a song or two. Everyone here seems really nice.
I’m from Kentucky!
Thank you Dominique! And yes… I’ve had quite my share of bad times with the viola. (Still love it, though.)
Welcome to the community! Enjoy your guitar journey…
Ashu here, also from the USA.
In my limited experience (far more so than yours) I find that learning to play is a combination of multiple interconnected factors
I have found that of these, the Justin lessons, and community, can help with all of them except for previous skills.
- Motivation
“I’ve just hit a rut and am getting bored”—scan previous discussions, post a new question for suggestions, some may feel particularly apropos of your mental space - Discipline
“I’m all over the place, some times I find I’m just noodling around, or not picking up my guitar for days on end”–same as above. Learn to use the training log, ask others - Available Time
“I don’t seem to have enough time”–the Justin website hive mind can help prioritize your efforts and make what time you do have available more productive - Instrument
“I don’t like the way my guitar feels, I cannot do barre chords” – the hive mind will have suggestions - Education
“How do I learn guitar”–well, that’s what this site is primarily about!
There are onboarding meetings (including archived, so you see old ones)
Built into this website are a bunch of tools to help with everything above
- Previous Skills
Next life, I’ll start playing earlier…
Bon voyage!
And yes, I do enjoy the sound of the viola. To me, it’s like some of the richer sonorities of the cello rubbed off on the viola’s little sister, and creates a whole different mind space for me
Hello Anika.
Welcome to JustinGuitar and this fantastic community. Please take your time to look around and get to know the wider space. View by Categories.
We are a supportive and encouraging group of students and guitarists from across the world. Essentially, we are all here for music and to improve as players. We truly are a ‘community’. Members help and support one another and a friendly, positive attitude underpins this. We hope that all - young or old, experienced or new players - adopt and foster the pay-it-forward ethos that Justin personifies and embedded all those years ago when he started the website and forum.
Also, please make sure to read the Community Etiquette announcement for some important information and guidance.
If you want to record yourself to show your progress and / or seek feedback there is our ever popular Community Recordings section.
Behind the scenes there is a small and dedicated team who work to make the JustinGuitar experience as good as it can be. Check out the Onboarding sessions provided by Fanny. Justin also has a small group of Approved Teachers he recommends for people wanting 1-to-1 lessons to supplement his courses - of which I am privileged to be one.
That is plenty to be going on with. It is a vast community space so if you need help as you find your way around just ask.
Cheers. Richard
