Guitar Challenge (Improv) - Layla style Backing Tracks

Another great posting Toby. You fairly travelled that fretboard. Nice!

From a personal point of view though, I think it sounds better on the electric than the acoustic.

Thanks Stefan, this was to keep it more in line with the EC Unplugged flavour but also a good exercise to see if I could do it on the acoustic, especially at the cramped and dusty end !
:sunglasses:

That was another great one Toby almost like Eric’s unplugged Layla but hey… no pick?! You are getting dangerously close into Mark Knopfler’s territory :grinning: keep on rockin!

Cheers Adrian. It was very much a grab, plug, play. But yes it would be nice to ditch the pick a bit more, so I guess the next step will be a thumb and one finger approach.

So many versions of this floating our there at the moment, I’m finding it difficult to keep track of who I’ve neglected
You did this one justice mon ami and I thought the acoustic sound was fab.

Nice one Toby, some acoustic (at last ), I was just thinking it’s about time we heard Toby do some acoustic, up it pops!
Fingers as well…. Wow!
It was pretty damn good to me, good job (as the yanks say ). Keep them coming buddy!

Cheers Darrell. The slow fingerstyle development is paying some limited dividends. One step at a time or maybe one thumb/finger at a time.

Been reading alot about Layla yesterday…dreamt about Layla last night….Today I thought I’d join the party, and test my improv, which I’ve been stepping into in recent months. I think my eagerness far surpasses my technique at present, but makin some headway….plus it’s a whole lotta fun.

Cheers, Shane

Welcome to the party, Shane. I was hoping that temptress Layla would draw you in.

Enjoyed your soloing, lots to like. The slides, the riff, little bends, playing over many positions, and a sweet tone.

Thanks David. Its a fun little progression, and I can see the value in me keeping it around as one of those ‘teaching progressions’. Lots of room for adding additional notes on top the minor pentatonic.
Re the tone. Its something Im not really satisfied with at the moment. Sounds too honky for me. Been experimenting with tone controls, pickup heights to lessen it a bit. Will get there one day.
Cheers, Shane.

Very groovy Shane.

Thanks Maggie. Early on in the journey, but feel Im taking a few steps forward thanks to Justin and this great community.

Nice job Shane thought sounded pretty good.

Thanks Trond. Much appreciated mate. With your fingerpicking skills, I dont think it’ll take you years to punch out an improv. Love your playing and singing mate. Im always on the lookout for your posts.
Cheers, Shane

That was brilliant Shane and I think your technique is right up there with your eagerness.

Hi Shane, welcome to the party. I liked the tone you had there. Super play all over the neck which is something I’m aiming for as I’m only just venturing away from pentatonic pattern 1.
Well done.

Cool stuff. That was really good to listen to.

Nice impro, bro!
This bird Layla’s infectiveness is spreading faster than anything witnessed to date
I’m going to update my anti-virus software, mask up and isolate to keep myself safe.
Is it wrong to enjoy watching you all behaving so irresponsibly?
