Hello everyone.👋

Hey everyone. My name is Dean. Well I’ve only started to learn to play the guitar a few months back, and that’s by a recommendation of my good friend. He recommended Justin’s lesson and such. Never in my life I thought I would be picking up the guitar, let alone learning how to play one, and yet here I am! Still learning the basic!

I’m currently a beginner grade 1.
I know that might seems a bit of a slow progress, but I’m mastering the basic first before going faster on the whole guitar journey.:sunglasses:

Any tips, pointers and words of encouragement are very much appreciated!
Here’s to an awesome Guitar journey together!:guitar:

Hi Dean - Welcome! We’re all learners, just at different stages on this journey. The more you learn, the more you realise how much further you have to go … and there is no end! There’s no rush, taking your time with the basics makes a lot of sense.
Cheers
Paul

Hello Dean :grinning:

A very warm welcome to the forum!
You’ve found the perfect place here and your friend is right to recommend Justin’s lessons. The courses and song tutorials are great, very motivating and a lot of fun.

I’m also a beginner. Like you I’ve started a few months ago, having just finished Grade 1 and still enjoying everything a lot.

I’d say you have a good plan mastering the basics first before going faster.

Wishing you lots of fun and success on your musical journey :grinning: :guitar:

Cheers from Germany

Great stuff Dean, welcome to the community. My best advice is to stick with it, make it part of your daily routine even if it’s only 10 minutes a day. Songs were the best goal for me, once I learned to play a song all the way through I was hooked. The greatest thing about the guitar is how rewarding it is once you get past the initial struggle. I’ve never regretted it and it regularly brings joy to my life.

Welcome, Dean. Nothing wrong with taking it slow, I spent 6-7 months on Grade 1 and am likely spending even longer on Grade 2.

Welcome Dean. I started playing in April and have progressed quickly with the Justin App. Daily practice really helps me. So many great songs to play in the app. Enjoy!

Welcome Dean, great choice to use Justin. Taking it slowly is an excellent approach.
You will be a very unusual person if there aren’t days when you are frustrated or even bored by the practice so my best advice is the rule I set myself - pick your guitar up every single day and play it, it doesn’t matter for how long, it can be two minutes if you aren’t in the mood, but pick it up. I got a guitar stand and kept it very visible to make this easy to do from day one, I didn’t need to get my guitar out of the case to pick it up.

Thank you Kim!
Yeah, I’m hoping that by taking the first few steps slowly and steadily, I can progress faster after the initial struggle.
Yes, you are right, after the intial excitement of getting a guitar and starting the lesson, there are days that I am so frustrated and want nothing to do with it.
But I keep on remembering what Justin said, to just keep on trying and practicing, and it’ll get better. And It’s true, it does get better. Just have to take it slow and steady.
Thanks for the advice! I’m sure a guitar stand will not only encourage me to play it daily, but it’ll also makes a cool room decor. :sunglasses::guitar:
Looking forward to continue my journey with the community.
