Hi Bethany.
Welcome to JustinGuitar and this fantastic community. Please take your time to look around and get to know the wider space. https://community.justinguitar.com/categories
We are a supportive and encouraging group of students and guitarists from across the world. Essentially, we are all here for music and to improve as players. We truly are a ‘community’. Members help and support one another and a friendly, positive attitude underpins this. We hope that all - young or old, experienced or new players - adopt and foster the pay-it-forward ethos that Justin personifies and embedded all those years ago when he started the website and forum.
Also, please make sure to read the community etiquette announcement for some important information and guidance.
Hi Bethany! I’m Beth, mother of two kids, now 17 and almost 20 years old. I started playing fairly regularly in my early 40’s when my second child was about 4. Now I’m 56 and still going. It’s definitely hard to find the time with kids (and a pretty demanding job). I’ve always played more consistently when I have structure to keep me on track, but everyone learns differently. It’s really great that you’re a vocalist with an academic background in music! I’ve long intended to work on my voice more, but never enough time! Happy to keep the dialogue going during the class:)
Welcome Bethany! I’m a mom of 2 and started about a year ago. Do this for you! You do so much for everyone else. Fill in pockets of time in between with practice. I keep a guitar downstairs while I’m working and when meetings end early or get canceled I can grab it and get some time in. I found a cheap mini guitar amp on Amazon that makes this really convenient if you are using an electric guitar it even has effects. Wishing you well with your guitar journey
