Hi everyone. I’m 46 years old, 30 years air guitarist and 6 months real. My wife purchased me a Les Paul style guitar for Christmas, after I’d done some research and told her what I wanted. She thought I’d play for a few weeks, maybe a month at most. I’ve had great pleasure proving her wrong, I love the guitar and haven’t missed a single day since Christmas when I started.
I have been using Yousician, but they’ve lost all of their Sony artists in one go and so I’ve been looking for something else. I’m currently half way through my first module and absolutely love it.
I’ll never be a pro guitarist, but I dream of being able to play some of my favourite songs and understand the guitar enough to experiment with my own tunes.
30 years air guitar… you described younger me well when I started with Justin at the age of 53, now some 15 years later I’m still going strong. Picking up the guitar every day is very important. Makes it part of your life style, like having your first cuppa tea in the morning.
Look forward to hearing more from you. The cool thing is the reward of being able to play songs doesn’t take all that long and once you can play one song, soon it will be two, then three, etc. The guitar gift just keeps giving.
Hello Damian,
Warmest greetings from Warsaw, Poland.
I’m very glad to meet a guitarist with such an attitude. Exactly my thoughts from years ago, and I’ve stuck to them ever since, never becoming a pro, but learning enough to put together and record my own tunes.
I’m sure you’ll find this community friendly and helpful. Enjoy every minute spent here.
Congratulations on your 1st guitar & also that you found Justinguitar.com! If you follow Justin’s well laid out syllabus, you will surprise yourself with how much you will learn!!! Allow yourself time to fully comprehend the material & also for consolidation… additionally & most importantly, have lots of FUN along the Journey!!!
Having a guitar stand or wall hanger helps as well… I like to pick up my guitar & play for 5-10 minutes while I’m waiting for something… like when my coffee’s brewing in the morning!!!
Hi Damien, welcome to the community. If you want to learn some of your favorite songs, be sure to look at some of the Song Lessons on the JG website. You can filter the song lessons by style of song and grade level.
46 (edit : 48 I was when introducing myself ??? … I would swear that …Oooo crxp a senior moment … you yongster ) that was the age when I started and almost 5 (?) months later founding justinguitar , after messing around in the beginning … you could see where you might be in about 2 years if you look at my topics (better not though, because comparing can be tricky, especially in the beginning I progressed fast due to the huge amount of time I put in )
Welcome to the site Damian. Ton of great stuff to sink your grips into here. Get those foundations down and you will be stoked.
I would explore some drop tuning also. Regular Eb, then Drop D tuning, dont be afraid of those song. You will totally dig those and stuff sounds killer, a lot of rad music is in those flavors. You will be able to play great easy versions of stuff like tool and a bunch of others once you jump into that.
Also dont hesitate about getting an acoustic guitar either. They are great, i honestly was suprised how much I took to them, they are key for me now. I play a lot of punk song on acoustic, people totally trip and then love it
