Hello from Canada!

Hi everyone,
I started playing the guitar about 2 months ago and I’m loving every single moment of it. I have been studying music on-off for quite a long time (I started learning the trumpet at 8 and I’m now 35, and I also studied viola for a while).

What initially drew me to the guitar is the ability to play pretty much any style and the variety of different specs instruments can have.

I came across JustinGuitar as I was looking at a structured way to learn by myself. I’m currently going through level 2 and I really like the structure of the whole program.

I’m lucky enough that I’ve always had instruments at home, so I currently cycle through 4 guitars. I have a Stratocaster, a Jazzmaster, a Jaguar and an Archtop.

Happy holidays to everyone!

Hi,
Greetings from Poland  Nice to meet you here.
I see from your intro that you are quite well equipped for your guitar adventure, not only in terms of the fine instruments you mentioned, but, what’s even more important - the love for playing, the latter being a very strong component of the success. Another good thing is that you’re familiar with music theory which, I’m sure, will prove useful along your learning path.
I’m looking forward to listening to your first recordings.
Regards
Tomasz

@Jaguar89 welcome to the community. I’m from Raleigh, NC, where hockey is not a religion, but it is popular. We do have a hockey team and an arena that once was called the RBC Center and the Canadian flag regularly hangs from the rafters.

I assume your name comes from one of your guitars? I’ve never played a Jaguar or a Jazzmaster. Do they have a lot different tones than a Stratocaster, that I do own?
I looked them both up and I think the Jaguar has double hum-buckers, particularly the Kurt Cobain model and the Jazzmaster has P90 style pickups, so I guess the answer to my question is yes.

Hi @Jaguar89. Welcome to the community. It’s a fun place to get to know other JG students and a very helpful and kind bunch of people.

That’s a very nice collection of guitars you have. You’ll need lots of time practicing to play them all!!!

They do have a different tone. The jaguar’s pickups have a kind of metal claw which, from my understanding, cut some of the lower frequencies, giving it a brighter sound.

My specific Jazzmaster has some kind of active humbucker pickups, but regular Jazzmaster pickups are, once again, brighter than p90s.

We are a supportive and encouraging group of students and guitarists from across the world. Essentially, we are all here for music and to improve as players. We truly are a ‘community’. Members help and support one another and a friendly, positive attitude underpins this. We hope that all - young or old, experienced or new players - adopt and foster the pay-it-forward ethos that Justin personifies and embedded all those years ago when he started the website and forum.
