Hi everyone,
I actually grew up outside New York City and
I was a drummer in school (snare in marching band, tympany in youth orchestra) but decided to take up guitar in my early 20s after a work colleague gifted me a 1979 Ovation Custom Balladeer. I played on and off over the subsequent decades, learning songs from friends or from books (this was before the world wide Web), but having no real understanding of music nor guitars. Justin was one of the first guitar teachers I followed back in 2010, when he wearing a beanie hat and hoodie and sitting in front of what I can only assume was a broken fireplace. ![]()
Anyway, learning how to play basic songs soon reignited a passion for playing again. But something was still missing. I had no clue about music theory and could hardly name a note on the fretboard. Thanks to his music theory course I have a decent understanding, and hope that I can progress to playing lead guitar at some point! In the meantime my goal is to play music in front of am audience. I’m a huge Nick Drake fan, but most of his songs are still beyond me!
Hello Jeremy & Welcome!!!
I hope you have a fun filled guitar Journey & that you can play the songs you love in the future!
Good luck!!!

Nice dude. Welcome to the community.
Right on bro, I played Trumpet forever. Even in HS band then jumped into DCI for 2 year with full summer tour. Man, I always hung out with the percussion crew, they always knew what was up. ![]()

So yeah Justings community. I am super stoked you found it. You will totally find tons of cool resources here and there is a lot avalible. So explore the clubs, the instructor’s tip area and even the archives. It is really crazy how much stuff is packed in the 2 sites. Haha I found a whole large area with a course of subject lessons just the day before yesterday. I was like "what the? I had never seen those lessons before, so wild.
Anyway keep up the good work, and keep ripping. Good luck.

Ontime
Hey Jeremy, always great to meet other Aussies here. Even more so when like me, originally from the USA and like me, now living in Northern NSW. There’s lots of acoustic music happening in Northern NSW and just over the border in SE Qld. There’s a great little open mic every month at the Burrow in Cabarita, plus regular ones at Uki pub and Murwillumbah. I also jam at the Men’s shed in Murwillumbah every Thursday morning with a group of about 8 to 10 guys.
Look forward to hearing more from you.
Welcome Jeremy, from a fellow Aussie on the Mid North Coast of NSW.
Stick around, keep digging in, and enjoy…
Cheers, Shane

Welcome to our Community Jeremy!
Hello Jeremy.
Welcome to JustinGuitar and this fantastic community.
Please take your time to look around and get to know the wider space. View by Categories.
We are a supportive and encouraging group of students and guitarists from across the world. Essentially, we are all here for music and to improve as players. We truly are a ‘community’. Members help and support one another and a friendly, positive attitude underpins this. We hope that all - young or old, experienced or new players - adopt and foster the pay-it-forward ethos that Justin personifies and embedded all those years ago when he started the website and forum.
Also, please make sure to read the Community Etiquette announcement for some important information and guidance.
If you want to record yourself to show your progress and / or seek feedback there is our ever popular Community Recordings section.
Behind the scenes there is a small and dedicated team who work to make the JustinGuitar experience as good as it can be. Check out the Onboarding sessions provided by Fanny.
Justin also has a small group of Approved Teachers he recommends for people wanting 1-to-1 lessons to supplement his courses - of which I am privileged to be one.
We also host regular (virtual) JustinGuitar Community Open Mic events for community members.
That is plenty to be going on with. It is a vast community space so if you need help as you find your way around just ask.
Cheers. Richard
