My name is Lenna, and I’m here to join the community. I wanted to see if anyone else is having the absolute opposite of the typical beginner experience.
My backstory: I started learning recently, prepared for a massive struggle. Instead, things are going a little bit too well. My fingers just instinctively know where to go, chords sound perfectly on day one, and I’m practically waiting for my fretboard to catch fire because of my chord changes. My neighbors probably think I’m playing a backing track at this point.
Right now, my main challenge is just trying to slow down. I’m off to look around the forum, and see what tips I can pick up for the next stages. Great to be here!
Welcome to the forum Lenna.
If thing are going very well for you then it’s time to put that knowledge to work and start learning songs. Check out the Songs Section on the website, you can search by grade, by chord progression, artist or genre.
Hi Lenna, and welcome to the community; I’m pretty sure you’re gonna have lots of fun here.
You seem to have already made considerable progress. As for the tips regarding your next learning stages, Rick said it all, imo, I agree 100% with everything he wrote.
Hi Lenna, and welcome. Post a video of you playing. Be sure to show both hands, your guitar, and face if you’re comfortable doing that, as that tells a lot about how things are going. Strum a chord, then show it ringing out the notes. Then move on to some chord changes. It’s great you caught on so swiftly. Be great to see this fantastic guitar playing and you’ll get great feedback from the community. Congratulations, move on then, and play some songs.
That’s so cool!
Keep that foot on the accellerator, but be prepared for the ‘brace’ position for when you hit a speedbump/obstacle. Also make sure you have enough fuel in your tank … Progress & enthusiasm is a potent mixture!
Welcome and good to hear you are having such a good experience, Lenna.
Over and above learning to play songs (singing strictly optional) I’d suggest make some recordings of you playing said songs and share here Community Recordings > Audio-Video Of You Playing Recordings can be simply made with a smart phone and most commonly uploaded onto YouTube. Once uploaded you can set the access to ‘Listed’ and share the link there if you are worried about the world seeing your video.
Welcome to the community Lenna! Glad it’s going so well so fast!
Just be aware that everyone eventually hits a plateau and it takes time to start the next climb. Justin has lessons on this topic (of course!) and there is good discussion in this community with lots of tips and ideas.
I’m not trying to be a downer, just a word of caution
In my first months, I also went crazy like a guitarist on steroids …hours per day, and with Justin’s course, my unmatched enthusiasm just kept being fueled for months/year well sometimes still …
I also went through music theory faster than my fingers could handle… but all of this was in the service of getting nicely tired for a good night’s sleep,
I kept pushing a bit harder than would be ideal for proper consolidation (too hard, many would say)… but that’s how I kept it interesting for myself. I hope that after a few days you’re still ‘flying’ and haven’t gotten too close to the sun.
start playing songs as soon as possible because that way you’ll more easily maintain the flow of applying what you learn…
