Help Figuring Out a Lead Part?

Hello. I’m learning a song by an early 2000’s J-Rock band called Janne Da Arc. There’s quite a few tabs for their songs, but I’m playing a song by ear there isn’t a tab or live play-through (even a cover) of. Huge mistake, as the guitarist is an absolute madman on the axe.

The part in question begins at around 1:02-1:04 into the song, linked here:

I’m wondering how I should go about playing this part. Is it just a really fast legato part? Could someone possibly walk me through what I’d need to practice to get in the ballpark?

Hi Flynn,

Sounds like finger tapping to me, maybe just hammer-ons.

If you have worked out the key of the song, based off of the chords in use you may be able to have an educated guess on the notes being played, I would start with notes from the pentatonic scale.

That’s how I would approach it anyway.

Thank you! Last question… at around 3:28-3:32, any idea what he’s doing here? It sounds like sweep-picking to me, but I might be wrong.

Sounds like it to me too, but I’m no expert on that.

Have a mess and see what happens :slightly_smiling_face:
