Hi, I’ve been taking the courses on the JustinGuitar site for a long time so, I think it’s finally time that I introduce myself to the community.
I’m 67 years young and was given a guitar for Christmas when I was a kid. Unfortunately, I was too young to remember playing it, I do have a picture of this event.
I started learning and playing the guitar between 1978 to 1980 while in the Navy.
Though I loved playing the guitar I stopped playing (for stupid reasons) for over 36 years.
I finally decided to pick it back up again in 2016 and even through the pain of rebuilding calluses and fumbling around hitting bad notes, etc., I have been enjoying playing every day. (Note to beginners, do not play your guitar after washing the dishes… ouch!)
I came across Justin around 2017 when searching how to play More Than Words by Extreme on YouTube. Justin’s way of teaching was so straight forward and easy to understand that not only did he help me to learn the song, I decided to join and take the classes.
It is taking me a long time to work through the courses (Beginning to Intermediate), but as Justin said this is not a race, but a journey in which I thoroughly enjoy.
I’m looking forward to interacting with the other members in the group and wishing all a very happy prosperous new year.
My old guitar tutor told me that he made the excuse once to get out of washing the dishes on the grounds that it affected his ability to teach his students. His wife bought him a pair of rubber gloves.
Hello Barry & Welcome!
I hope you enjoy the Community as much as you enjoy Justin Guitar! There’s so much to learn here from the experiences of the other members… it’s very educational & entertaining! Lots of banter & general fun!
Good luck continuing you Journey in the New Year!
Well Barry you are in the right place and a big hi from me cheers Hec and you could post your photo herehttps://community.justinguitar.com/t/show-us-your-earliest-photo-of-you-with-a-guitar/361298
Hey Barry. welcome to the forum. I have a brother who lives outside of a small town somewhere nearish to Raleigh. Nice to hear you are making progress, the guitar is a bit challenging at first but the reward is so very worth it. Look forward to hearing more from you.
Hi Barry. Great intro story. I will hit 67 in a few months and have found not only great teaching put great people in this community. You should check out this thread for some common challenges and funny stories from the Justin Guitar senior set:
This is probably anecdotal, but it seems there are more and more “vintage” age people signing up and joining the forum lately. Is the Justin guitar empire slipping some magic potion into fiber supplements around the world?
