I am not new to guitar. I have 6 of 'em.
but…I have struggled learning this instrument for the last 10 years and each time I knew it was because I lacked challenge. I officially learned most of what I know now about 3 years ago and almost touching intermediate guitar playing. Most teachers talk how learning isn’t linear, but the overwhelming information all over the internet get exhausting since I couldn’t find where I should be going next.
So, I stopped playing about a year ago because the songs, chords and strumming were repetitive. Felt like I wasn’t loving the guitar anymore. I could barely learn a song because the repetition of the open chords just isn’t challenging.
I picked up the guitar again recently and looked through the courses on JG and found at home in Grade 4. Especially playing the G Major scale and I can say I have felt the passion back and my “practicing” is ending around 40 minutes.
I want to rid myself of the CAPO!
This place is great! I am happy I stumbled upon it!

Hi Raven, welcome to the community forum. Happy to hear that you have found what you need to get excited about guitar again with the lessons in Grade 4. FYI, grade 3 was actually developed most recently and has a few topics like triads, bar chords and playing scales over chords in keys that was taken from grade 4. I don’t know what you have learned already, but power chords introduced in grade 2 teaches the notes on the 6th and 5th strings to prepare for barre chords. Have fun exploring the guitar up the fretboard and playing songs with what you learn.

hey Steve L - thanks! I appreciate that, I will go back and watch grade 3. I always am down for finding out different things I havent learned yet. I did already know of power chords, but a refresher couldn’t hurt.
