Hi everyone! This is my first post and I am not really sure whether I am putting it in the right place. Apologies if not.
My name is Ananth, and am a self taught acoustic guitar player (folk and rock), and have restarted my playing since Covid. I bought the Blues Immersion course last year but did not join the classes immediately. I am only now going through the classes and have just recorded myself pre-course (noodling Amin pentatonic) and transcribed the 48bar solo Justin asked us to.
When in the course, I am unable to comment on any of the material (where Justin asks us to leave a comment). I would love to join an active group or sub-community here that is doing that course or is interested in discussing the material or blues/improv in general. For example, I would love to share my before-course recording to get feedback.
Can you be more specific about how / why you are unable to comment? There are also BLIM specific threads in this community forum. Lots of conversations have gone on in those threads.
and transcribed the solo. Justin asked for us to comment using the buttons below. I see a “discussion” button, but when I click that it says the page does not exist.
It looks like I can submit a note using the “notes” button, but I am not sure whether that goes to Justin or if he even views these.
Similarly in the “Learn together” module it says to use the “discussion” button to introduce ourselves, but, again, that does not work - perhaps because it is not the current cohort?
I do notice that there is a current cohort of BLIM that BLIM alumni like me can join for $99 and it says explicitly there that the purpose of this is to be able to engage with the current learners
The course is complete. My understanding is I have lifetime access to the materials which I assume also means the forum threads specific to the blim I’m in.
You have lifetime access to the Blues Immersion lessons and resources. You also have access to the BLIM alumni Community section here.
That said, if you are seeking to be engaged in an on-going basis with a community aspect, mutual support and joining study-buddy groups and having access to feedback and support from Justin, the BLIM teaching Assistant (Dave Birnie for BLIM 5) and the opportunity to join live Q&A etc then those opportunities are now passed.
You can access it all if you rejoin the class as an alumni with a heavily discounted fee. That will give you access to Class 5 which is literally starting right now, this week. The section for Class 5 is here: https://community.justinguitar.com/c/blues-immersion-class-5/472
You will only be able to access that if you are subscribed.
Thank you @Richard_close2u - I was able to view the link you pasted and several topics. They are all old and the most recent post is 2 years ago on most. Is it kosher for me to reply to a topic there, sharing my pre BLIM recording? I would like to share with folks in the community to get feedback, but I want to be sure to respect the etiquette here. Thanks so much.
The BLIM alumni section can be seen as an archive and is not really a current area of active discussion.
You can post recordings there and ask for feedback. You may get some response from other BLIM students but most are out of the habit of frequenting that section.
You could use the Community wide Audio-Video of You Playing (AVOYP) section where you will get much nore attention - from BLIMmers and all the community members alike.
Or, if you decide to join BLIM 5 for a nominal subscription fee, you can use that section and join and start anew.
Hi @Richard_close2u , I just purchased the BLIM5 ($99 for BLIM alumni). Can you point me to a page which tells me when and what to expect? Have the classes started? Are they live sessions and how do I start and engage?
I can see all seven modules (Units 0-6) from before but I cannot see a new unlocked live Unit 0 where I can engage live.
Depending on the email address you use for your Community account (for example, if you updated your email on JustinGuitar.com at some point but not in the Community), or if you haven’t accessed the general JustinGuitar Community before, you may not be added automatically. In those cases, we’ll just need to add you manually.
Hi @Richard_close2u - it looks like I made a little progress. By closing all tabs and restarting my computer I am now able to access the link you shared (I could not access this before). I have a couple of questions still:
Under Blues Immersion, I can see all the units - I was able to see this before as well because I was part of a previous BLIM class. Is that the way it should be or should I only be seeing the current BLIM 5 Unit 0 which I understand is now “live.”
I can now comment using the Discussion tab on some lessons (such as the “Try Transcribing” lesson) but …
I am unable to add an essay on the “Artist study - your fav” lesson. It looks like Anna has submitted a Gary Moore essay but I can see nothing else. This shows as “closed.” When I try to access this a different way as you suggested to someone else, I am unable to create a topic. It says “There are no more Unit 0 - Artist Essays - BLIM 5 topics.”
I figure that the entire Unit 0 should now be open as we prep for Unit 1 starting in October, so I am confused about the above.

All previous BLIM units are viewable to alumni so you should be able to see them all.
But, to follow along with Class 5, follow the units as they drop.
