Thank you all for the warm welcome and the advice. So lovely to have such a great community! Am looking forward to checking out a few guitars and starting my journey!
I think you made the right call. I have been playing for a while now, yet felt like I was missing some basics. So I started Justin method from the begining and have learnt way more than I thought I would.
He is a great teacher!
Welcome Sam, enjoy the journey, and whatever guitar you have, enjoy making music with it.
It is SO NICE, to get up and, “Hmm, practice in the morning, noon, or afternoon: what’ll it be? maybe more than just a single period…”
I’m a rank beginner and feel grateful that I’ve been able to, mostly, retire, and be able to be an absolute beginner again. Something very refreshing about leaving work at the peak of my skills and starting from almost zero with guitar.
Welcome to the lucky crowd of retirees picking up guitar. You’ll find a very generous group of folks in this group to help grease the skids should they start to bind
Hi Sam.
For Telecaster type, you may want to look at G&L ASAT Classic Bluesboy too. Solid review and beautiful to look at, even for non Tele fan like me.
Alternatively, consider an Epiphone Lucille and play like B.B. King.
Enjoy your journey!
Hello Sam.
Good advice already given - follow the course from the beginning.
If you’ve come across a recommendation for the Classic Vibe Tele I would direct you to the 70s Custom version. Also look at G&L ASAT Bluesboy.
Welcome to JustinGuitar and this fantastic community. Please take your time to look around and get to know the wider space. View by Categories.
We are a supportive and encouraging group of students and guitarists from across the world. Essentially, we are all here for music and to improve as players. We truly are a ‘community’. Members help and support one another and a friendly, positive attitude underpins this. We hope that all - young or old, experienced or new players - adopt and foster the pay-it-forward ethos that Justin personifies and embedded all those years ago when he started the website and forum.
Also, please make sure to read the Community Etiquette announcement for some important information and guidance.
If you want to record yourself to show your progress and / or seek feedback there is our ever popular Community Recordings section.
Behind the scenes there is a small and dedicated team who work to make the JustinGuitar experience as good as it can be. Check out the Onboarding sessions provided by Fanny. Justin also has a small group of Approved Teachers he recommends for people wanting 1-to-1 lessons to supplement his courses.
That is plenty to be going on with. It is a vast community space so if you need help as you find your way around just ask.
Cheers. Richard

Welcome to the community Sam! You’ve come to the right place.
Haha, that’s exactly what I hope I’ll feel. Wake up in the morning with no agenda and then figure out what I’m going to do for the day over breakfast and an espresso! Can’t wait! ![]()
