Hi,
Just joined after watching many many tutorial and play along videos on YouTube…including many posted by Justin.
Sort of newly returned to the guitar at age 50 after a hiatus. My Dad gave me all of his guitars (and his ukulele), and unfortunately he passed away last year…so I thought I better make use of them!
Loving it and am determined to keep improving.
Doing an open mic night has been added to the bucket list…but no rush.

Nice Simon. Your Dad would be stoked to know you are getting it on with his old rigs. Keep plugging away. You have the right attitude, which it to have fun. Now you found a great community which will help by supporting. Lots of great people here and tons of resourses.

It’s fun–a long haul with many rewards along the way. Great you can play your dad’s instruments. I inherited my father in law’s guitar and feel like I’m communing with him as I practice.

Hello Simon & Welcome!!!
What a wonderful thing to be able to pick up something your father loved, hold it close to your heart & (eventually) make beautiful music 
!!! What a super goal to provide motivation to keep learning & improving!!!
One of my coworkers inherited his mom’s guitar, a flamenco style acoustic, learned to play & then set himself a goal… his mom had played for a group of touring Flamenco dancers & he was determined to provide the music for them. While he was learning to play the style, he was also learning to speak Spanish since the group barely spoke English. When they came to his city a few years ago, he introduced himself before their show and asked if he could play one number for them. They auditioned him backstage & their guitarist insisted that he play every flamenco song that he knew for the show that night! He was floored, quite nervous, but went on & did well!!! He says he felt like his mother’s love was flowing through his fingers that night & that he’s never played better before or since.
I hope you can feel your father’s presence in your music while you carry on his legacy!!!
