Hi from Stan in Pennsylvania

I’m Stan from Pennsylvania, USA. At 58, I’ve decided to once again try to learn guitar. I saw a lot of recommendations for this site, so I decided to give it a try. I like how it’s going so far. The initial chords are a great starting point (especially with the anchor finger concept). Too many other times when I’ve tried, barre chords are introduced way too early in the lessons (for those video game enthusiasts out there, I consider the F major chord to be the guitar equivalent of a Dark Souls boss). That kind of thing has a way of sapping the confidence out of you.

Thanks to first few Justin lessons and some things I found on YouTube, I’ve already had a bit of a breakthrough, and I’m thinking I might actually be able to do this. I guess we’ll see.

As for inspirations, though there have been many great guitar players out there over the decades, I’d say the top three I admire most are (in no particular order): David Gilmour, Carlos Santana, and Stevie Ray Vaughan.

Hello Stan & Welcome!!!

Strike out the word MIGHT… follow the lessons Justin provides & you CAN do this!!!
There are SO many older learners here in the Community… many of them older than us (I’m 62) who have just picked up guitar for the first time, without any previous musical knowledge & are playing really well! It’s so cool to see people playing their hearts out just for the joy that guitar brings! Also, many who are Start, Stop, Start, Stop type learners that are truly progressing for the 1st time!

If you put in the practice, learn basic, simple songs at first & just follow the path in front of you, it’s going to come out successful! The most important ingredient (except maybe practice time) is FUN!!! Always keep it fun & joyful!!!
Good luck!

Welcome to the forum Stan

Stick with Justin and you will. Lost count of the timed I started and stopped from the mid 90s.
Found Justin a decade or so back, ain’t stopped since.

Enjoy the ride.

Hey Stan, welcome to the community. Justin’s anchor finger lesson made a huge difference to me when I was first starting 13 years ago. The full F barre chord is worth the effort, it’s a gateway to lots of stuff. I certainly struggled with it and it took a few months before it sounded clean, but I’m so glad I stuck with it. Look forward to hearing more from you

Hi Stan,
Welcome here and I wish you a lot of fun :sunglasses:

Greetings,Rogier
