Hi from Wallu in Helsinki, Finland!

Kiitos, kiitos @JokuMuu ! I already feel very welcomed. :slightly_smiling_face:

Yeah, I’m half way through Grade 1 and taking it slowly trying to improve my sloppy fingering to make the strings actually sound out. The site has been very useful so far.

I’m not that big of a metal fan despite being finnish. But I do consider this a very, very good country musicwise anyway. I tend to see bands at least once a week and there is always something good playing. As for venues with good acoustics there is Tavastia of course and Korjaamo and G-Livelab (those latter two don’t have much metal in their repertoire though). Smaller places like Bar Loose and Lepakkomies have lots of metal, but if sounds are important to you… well.

Itching to pick up that guitar once again, but maybe I let the neighbourgs sleep for an hour more. This is a good start and such nice and supportive people here. Thanks again for the welcome. Back at you later.

Wow… Now, I’m a bit jealous. There is not much happening here usually. Sure, Helsinki is close but it’s not the same with the thought in the back of my head “gotta catch the last bus”.

I have heard stories of Lepakkomies  It’s one of the places to visit during my next Helsinki weekend. Never been for some reason… Tavastia and G-Lab, yes of course… I know that Jarkko Martikainen e.g. plays there relatively often. Gotta check :slightly_smiling_face:

Musicwise I draw the line only at most traditional country, schlager, tango, EDM. Everything else is fine.

Sloppy fingers sounds as familiar as concerns about neighbours. I still remember that one day at the beginning of the year when some neighbours apparently laconically started singing along with me :joy:

They look like a too heavy band for me. But look can be deceiving, of course. I avoided Ghost for a long time because of that, thought they were some black metal band.

Hi Jussi,

They are not just heavy actually, just look scary. It’s supposedly industrial metal, but actually some kind knowledgeable of discometal. Not something I like much, for some reason I just thought that name might be known…

But let’s not hijack this thread :innocent:

Welcome to the community, Jussi!

Wish you loads of fun on your guitar journey.

Hello Wallu.
Welcome to JustinGuitar and this fantastic community. Please take your time to look around and get to know the wider space.
https://community.justinguitar.com/categories

We are a supportive and encouraging group of students and guitarists from across the world. Essentially, we are all here for music and to improve as players. We truly are a ‘community’. Members help and support one another and a friendly, positive attitude underpins this. We hope that all - young or old, experienced or new players - adopt and foster the pay-it-forward ethos that Justin personifies and embedded all those years ago when he started the website and forum.

Also, please make sure to read the community etiquette announcement for some important information and guidance.

Thank you all. I do feel very welcomed indeed. Is the internet getting nicer or am I just imagining things?

Well, back to the business. I think I’m fine tuning my chords today with chord perfect and one minute changes practices. The guitar playing feels very good again.

Hi Jussi, welcome to the community forum. I am 69 so I consider 50 years old as geriatric in training  You have many years to learn guitar. Have fun.

If you did that, I would be interested for sure!
I’m sure there are more I know but I’m unaware that they’re from Finland.
I additionnally remembered Leningrad Cowboys

All the best- see you soon,

I’ll wrack my brain for a thread idea… Let’s not hijack @Wallu’s intropost :slightly_smiling_face:

Oh! Ghost is one of new favourites. :star_struck: Managed to see them when they played together with Metallica in Prag a couple of years ago…

By the way, since I’m from Sweden I really do understand the feeling of damp and darkness for 4-6 months a year. :guitar: :+1:

Yes, of course! Sorry @Wallu !
I deleted the unnecessary babbling.

Mainly I wanted to react to you saying that finnish music would deserve a thread on its own here, because I was thinking that, if not you, maybe Wallu would like to do such a post. Or @Wallu add your own favoutites to the thread that Nicole newly has created?

Greetings from Germany to Finland to Wallu and to Nicole,
Dominique

Oh, sorry I haven’t answered you earlier, but here I am now again. @JokuMuu aka Nicole seemed to make a thread with Nordic music. I’m sure to stop by there next just as I have checked my notifications. I think there will be gems there.
