Hi Guitarists, Ivan from UK hoping to join you all

Well, been meaning to carve out 30 mins every day to do this. Love the Justin videos, time to dive in. I hope to be back tomorrow for another 30 mins. Little and often. I hope you are all going great guns, After a few weeks\months ?? it would be good to jam with some of you. Cheers. Ivan

Hello Ivan!
Welcome aboard! What is your guitar background? How long have you been playing & what style do you prefer? How about the guitar you play? Following Justin’s program has really helped me so far!

Hey Ivan, welcome to the forum. When I started out with Justin over 10 years ago I put 15 minutes a day into it. Every day, just made it always happen. Within a few months it grew to 20 and then 30. Well worth every minute I’ve put in over the years.

Hi CATMAN62 - well i have tried to learn a few times and never really make much progress. I first started in my late 40s, now 52. I keep picking it up now and then, and putting it down again.

I play a Yamaha Pacifica and have a Spark amp. The amp is great - well the app it comes with is brilliant.

I will try and follow Tony’s plan. Little every day. See if I can keep the commitment.

Cheers All

Ivan, welcome to the community. Try to find a time in the day that you can consistently pick up the guitar and play for 30 minute. If you can follow Justin’s practice schedule at 5 to 6 days a week, then you will be ready to play with others sooner than you might think.

Thanks Steve great advice,

I will be chuffed to bits if I can get good enough to play with others.

Have you tried free style jamming? I can’t do that at all…. I just feel lost. I guess keep practising and it will drop in at some point.

Where are you on your guitar journey?

Ivan, I am working on Grade 3, but I am also reviewing Grade 1 and 2 songs. I haven’t tried free style jamming, but if you are talking about rock free style, you will learn some of that in Grade 2 when you cover power chords and learn the minor pentatonic scales used in rock soloing. Keep going and you will get there.

Hello Ivan, and welcome. I also have a Spark amp. What a wonderful practice amp and program. I was one of the original purchasers of the amp, and it took six months to get to me finally. Practice is key. Keep it up, and here’s to improving. It will happen  .

Hi Ivan. I’ve been practising 20-30 mins a day and I’ve been amazed at the progress I’ve made. I feel like my mind and my fingers are finally working together!

Hi Ivan, welcome. Regular practice is key to be able to progress in your playing. How long it can take you to achieve certain level it can vary a lot and time is not as much important as progressing, even in little steps, and whatever you can play playing it the best you can and having fun.

As soon as you can keep a rhytm and doing some reasonably clean chord changes you can jam with someone even if you are doing one strum per bar. It much depends of the jamming partner(s) attitude. Ideally they should keep in mind that they were once playing at whichever level you are playing now and therefore provide encouragement and advice.
