I’ve joined Justin Guitar a couple of years ago, but I hadn’t introduced myself yet.
At age 17 I bought my first guitar, a second hand Les Paul clone. That was 40+ years ago. At that time there was no internet, so I had to learn to play from books. That only worked so well. For example, I failed to learn to play proper bar chords, so I developed my own way with the thumb on the 6th string. (Later I heard that Hendrix did the same). For A shape bar chords I even used my thumb on the 5th string. For many years I played a lot, and with the 2 bar chord types I learned to play along to many songs. At that time I particularly liked Ramones songs.
Eventually I got other hobbies and didn’t play as much anymore. When in the early 90’s Grunge came along, I had trouble playing along with these songs. How could those guys change chords so fast? I had never heard of Drop-D… That was rather discouraging.
Working at home during the pandemic gave me an opportunity to listen to my own favorite music instead of the ‘middle-of-the-road’ stuff that was always playing on the radio at the office. This somehow sparked a renewed interest in playing guitar. So that’s when I started again.
During the past couple of years I watched a lot of instruction video’s, both on Justin Guitar and other Youtube channels. And also played and practiced a lot. There’s still a lot to learn, but I feel I’m slowly getting better at it.
This is a good place to discuss all things guitar & music - lots of other “life” stuff as well!
I hope your renewed interest in playing your guitar brings you much joy & happiness!!!
Good luck along your journey!
Sounds like you have some solid foundations to build on. Learning is kind of never ending though, because with each new thing we learn, we also learn what we still need to learn. But I think that’s great as learning guitar is fun - and I wish you loads of fun and joy on your guitar journey!

HI Hans, welcome to the community forum. After 50+ years interest in the guitar, I find that there is much to learn and relearn. Have fun learning new things and relearning what you may have forgotten.
