How To Change Strings On An Acoustic Guitar

I meant the little vertical notches in the pins like the ones in this image. These should be facing the nut (in the direction of the frets). The bend on the strings should be a little shorter than the pins themselves. When tightened, the ball ends of the strings will touch the bridge from underneath but might make the pins move a little, that’s when they should be pushed back into the holes.

my Taylor pins definitely had no notches. Perfectly smooth Guitar Bridge Pins | Taylor Guitars

The pins in that link appear to have slots. Or at least flats.

Hmm, interesting. As I can see on the pictures, they are not supposed to be totally smooth. On the second image you can see that the ends of these pins are not perfectly round but are semi-circles. The notches are on the “flat” side of the pins.

Well, hopefully my restringing this time holds. But for next time…flat end of pin faces frets. Bend string a bit shorter than the pin and insert towards front of hole. Insert pin with flat end forward.

I’m assuming I cannot control how the “nut” end of the string faces inside the hole.

Thank you very much.
