I agree with @simon_plays_bass . You don’t have to pass any ear training requirement to complete grade 1. If you think that you do, you may be using the “classic” beginner course that had ear training as part of the lessons. The check list for passing grade 1 on the website or in the app does not have an ear training requirement.
You might have better success in developing your ear training when you continue with grade 2 and start playing scales and additional riffs.
You wanted to do ear training to help with your singing, the course does not claim to help with that. The ear training lessons are laid out and summed up above as something to work on over time. Justin’s ear training may not be right for you. Consider seeking out other courseware.
If you want more advice on singing, it wouldn’t hurt to look at Justin’s lesson on learning to sing . It provides a few hints that might be useful to you.
The best way to learn to sing is to start with songs with simple melodies that are familiar to you. Look at some of the discussion for Justin’s singing lesson and you will find additional advice. I have sung all of my life and had 3 years of university training and a couple of years of private vocal coaching. All of that time I was pretty ignorant about intervals. Most of my vocal practices were with scales and singing melodies. Be patient with yourself and don’t expect to sing and play the guitar as the same time in the first year at least. Like Justin says, you need to get the guitar playing automatic before you can focus on the siinging. Like many on this site have said. Learning guitar is a marathon, not a sprint and the same is true of learning to sing. Enjoy the journey and have fun.
@mathsjunky Only way is forwards then and I shall keep practicing. Thank you.
@BurnsRhythm I really hope so. thanks a lot.
@SteveL_G99 I may need to have more patience yeah cuz I am already trying to sing and play at the same time and even posted a simple not very well done cover on my social media stories because I was very excited.
But I am so excited and singing feels integral to music for me. And I am unfortunately not in a place where I can get dedicated vocal lessons right now.
Thanks a lot tho. I also have watched the singing video from justin several times already hehe. Helpful tips !
@CT Justin said it will help with singing tho. And I take what I can find with that. half a loaf is better than no loaf.
