Jaymz intro - from Ontario, Canada

Hello guitar enthusiasts!

My name is James, I’m from Ontario Canada. I’m a vocalist aspiring to become a guitarist and learn more music theory.

I’ve been using Justin’s course for about 6 weeks now. I’m completely hooked! I use the app and love the way it’s laid out.

Currently I’m in the final module of beginner grade 1. I’m fortunate that I did take lessons as a kid around age 13. I learned the basic chords but never did get any good at strumming and playing songs. (Typical undisciplined kid and I didn’t practice much…) Eventually I gave it up and had a bit more natural knack for singing. From that point on I just figured my voice was my instrument and left it at that.

Well recently My wife and I inherited some guitars and I started messing around with one and watching YouTube tutorials etc. Pretty soon that led me to Justins guitar app and website and now I’m hooked!

Currently I’m using the app and working through Justins music theory course. I try to put in an hour per day of practice and learning. So days it’s less some days it’s more but I figure daily practice of any kind will lead to some improvement.

I look forward to chatting with you all and exploring the world of guitar!

-James

Hi James, welcome loads of friendly people to help and advise on here if you need it.

Best advise I can give is video yourself and if brave enough publish it on here and get critic and support to help you improve or just look at your own issues and try and fix. It takes time but will all come together with regular practice.

Thanks everyone for the warm welcome!

As far as filming myself and progress for input and sharing photos of my instruments… I might just do that!

Also if anyone can share ways they track their progress I would be interested to know!

Hi James,
A lot of people do something like an LL ( learning Log)

Have fun :smiling_face_with_sunglasses:

Hello James and welcome among us! You’re in the right place for chatting about and explore the world of guitars! I’m sure that you’ll find the Community both a fun and a helpful place to be along your journey.

Hi James, welcome to the community forum. As a vocalist, I have found that the guitar is very convenient for accompanying yourself when other instruments (like piano) are not available and for playing and singing with small groups. Have fun learning to play and sing along with your playing when your guitar playing becomes more confident.

Hello James.

Welcome to JustinGuitar and this fantastic community. Please take your time to look around and get to know the wider space. View by Categories.

We are a supportive and encouraging group of students and guitarists from across the world. Essentially, we are all here for music and to improve as players. We truly are a ‘community’. Members help and support one another and a friendly, positive attitude underpins this. We hope that all - young or old, experienced or new players - adopt and foster the pay-it-forward ethos that Justin personifies and embedded all those years ago when he started the website and forum.

Also, please make sure to read the Community Etiquette announcement for some important information and guidance.

If you want to record yourself to show your progress and / or seek feedback there is our ever popular Community Recordings section.

Behind the scenes there is a small and dedicated team who work to make the JustinGuitar experience as good as it can be. Check out the Onboarding sessions provided by Fanny.

Justin also has a small group of Approved Teachers he recommends for people wanting 1-to-1 lessons to supplement his courses - of which I am privileged to be one.

We also host regular (virtual) JustinGuitar Community Open Mic events for community members.

That is plenty to be going on with. It is a vast community space so if you need help as you find your way around just ask.

Cheers. Richard
