You have achieved so much and to save me typing you have listed those achievements as well Huge congrats on both anniversaries, you have brought so much to the JGC in such a relatively short time. Long may it continue.
Thank you so much Lisa! I agree. While years 1-2 definitely had a lot of learning, this last year was when I really started to feel like my skills were really growing. I’ve started to find my own voice on the instrument. I’ve done so much of my list just in this last year!
That’s really nice of you to say, Toby! Thank you so much- what an awesome compliment. I love being here in the community
That’s seriously impressive Jenn. This may sound obvious, but being a musician - and not just an eternal student - is what really makes you progress. I just discovered that myself after 15 years or so.
Being a musician can mean different things to any of us (songwriting, recording, performing, playing in a band, ). But it looks like you’ve chosen to tick all the boxes. Not sure how you’re doing it, but good stuff. Be proud!
Great update Jenn. You’re certainly showing us all the way when it comes to progress. All that in 3 years!
Your band(s) can only continue to get better and I’m sure you’ll blow the audience away at your local festival next year. Maybe a mix of originals and covers? People like to hear a few songs they’ve heard before. Unless of course you’ve released your EP/LP by then and it’s your songs they all want to hear.
So true! It is so crazy how different my goals are now than when I first started playing. If you would have told me I would have a band and be writing my own music three years ago I would have said “no way”
Thanks Gordon! We’ve thought about doing a mix of originals/covers as well for this reason. I’m thinking we may aim for like 80% original and 20% covers. The festival we want to play gives 1.5 hours slots to each band and I want to make sure we have enough songs to fill the time I went to the festival and watched the band that played this year in the slot that we would most likely end up with and they did all originals, but there were many bands there that did a mix or only covers.
That is nuts, Jennifer?! When you put it all down like that, I doubt that anyone beginning guitar, especially in their adult life with family and other commitments, would even consider half of that would be possible in 3 years, let everything you’ve achieved! Mind blowing!! Huge congratulations on making this happen! And you did make this happen, I know the incredible amount of hard work you put in to guitar, writing songs and creating performances, whether that is live or recorded. Well done again and can’t wait to see what the next 3 years has in store!
Thank you Sometimes I think even I forget that even though I’ve done a lot in a relatively short window, I did actually make it happen! it takes a lot of practice/work, but it’s so fun that it sometimes doesn’t feel that way
Congrats, Jennifer. Amazing progress and also have contrbuted to the OMs as an MC (I think you missed that one, which I value highly, but maybe I missed it reading the post).
Hi Jenn. Your name is right there waiting for the next opportunity!
ps
Mrs C and I binge watched a new series called Sweetpea. A bit of a black comedy killer thriller. It used a lot of music and episode 4 ended with a song I did not recognise at all but whose style made me instantly think of you and so I’d like to suggest it as a potential cover song for you and Dan and maybe the band.
ps - the self harm approach is optional but not recommended for family viewing!
But if you do it as a collab with @nzmetal I can easily see his penchant for the theatrical allowing the use of a liitle fake blood!
Just wanted to tell you how great your learning log is. I had a little read of various entries over the last three years and you really have made lots of progress in lots of ways.
Knowing that what you’re doing is right where you’re supposed to be and doing it is the perfect thig for you: that’s what we call living your best life!! Enjoy!
Looking forward to seeing the entries continue along your learning path as you become a regular gigging “IRL” band with a following and all that stuff!! Your learning log (amongst others here in this wonderful community!) has inspired me to do my own. . .just have to make it a priority!!
Thanks for the inpsiration and for sharing your journey so far!!
Never too late There is always some kind of party over here
Thank you so much! I definitely am Any day that I get to spend some quality time with my guitar is a good day for me
Yay! So happy I could help inspire you to start your own log! I’ll make sure to check it out when you do it I should probably update mine a bit more, but I feel like I at least get the major updates on here
