I love my ibanez but i also like to change tunings alot and the one i have has a floating trem… and most of the jcustoms have a stock floating trem.
Both the prestige model and the jcustom are essentially made by the same luthiers in the same shop. Only the jcustom come stock with ibanez signature floating trem and get the extra fret work and the super fancy showpiece wood which essentially doubles the price tag… and there has only been one made stock with a hardail which i could not find anywhere for sale…
Anyway im really excited to upgrade from my indonesian model to the pure japanese model… and eventually will buy the jcustom im sure when i want the fancy floating trem. I just wanted the i can retune this whenever i want and play every day guitar for now.
Ive been on the fence for like 2 years about just sticking to the ibanez line which i love… or buying a les paul and a tele, and decided to just pull the trigger on this beast.
I am a huge fan of ibanez guitars… the one i have is an indonesian rg though. Its a great guitar but going from that to the prestige is basically like swapping from a pis honda to a lambo… ibwould have went with the jcustom but i really wanted a hardtail this time.
Ibanez makes beautiful guitars… the issue with the jcustoms and prestige though is you really got to shop around for that perfect piece of wood… because even the same model each of them being handcrafred leaves every one a little different
Ibanez do make beautiful guitars. I have an Indonesian made AR420 - very different guitar from the RG’s - but even though it’s a lower priced guitar, the build quality and finish is absolutely impeccable and it looks beautiful. I’m sure your Prestige will be fantastic.
I was wondering which model your current RG is? It looks nice on the videos you recently posted and sounded great too.
The Ibanez range is really confusing when you look on their website. They make so many different models and variations.
Sorry for the late response that one is an indonesian model RG470AHM i think. I like it but its a world of difference from the quality of the prestige. Its heavier and the neck is thicker. Fretboard felt amazing when i bought it but when i got the prestige its like… “i stand corrected” lol.
The prestige models are handmade and the only difference bwtween them and the jcustom is the extra fret work and the more expensive and rarer wood… a prestige that you send in for a master setup will be essentially the exact same guitar minus showpiece wood i would say…
The jcustom models also for all intensive purposes come ALL (Except i think once or twice when they released limited run edition) come stock with a floating trem… if interested in a hardtail prestige is your only bet really.
