I am new to Justin Guitar I am a beginner that has been playing for decades with no lessons, so a lot for me to learn… I have worked may way through beginner grades one and two in the last 6 weeks plus some other interesting lessons. I am astonished at the things I didn’t know, despite having had both piano and vocal lessons! I have just signed up to Strumming SOS to try and remedy my non existent technique in the hope that my guitar playing will have less of a negative impact on my singing!
Hi Celine - Welcome! I think there’s a lot to learn whatever stage you’re at. I started on the site, like you having played a while and I haven’t religiously gone through the early grades. Every now and then I do watch an ‘early’ lesson and normally pick up some pearl of wisdom … I really should go through them all to find out what I missed!!
cheers
Paul.
Hey Paul, haha I needed all the help I could get so I have been diligent about doing them all even if it is stuff I know or thought I know, or did not seem relevant. It transpires there are endless pearls of wisdom to be had!
Welcome to the community Celine
A wise decision to do this, even after years of playing at one level or another.
For starters it will flush out any bad habits you’ve picked (boy I had loads after 17 years of drifting!) and show you things you will not have known or encountered, With your existing knowledge and skills, it won’t take you long to cover the stuff you already knew and reach your natural level, lesson wise, to start adding new skills and techniques.
Enjoy the ride.
Hi Celine,
Welcome here and I wish you a lot of fun learning and reading
Greetings,Rogier
Hello Celine and welcome to our community.
You know what they say, we don’t know what we don’t know.
Have fun.
Kia ora Celine
Welcome
I had also been playing guitar for a while with no lessons before I discovered JustinGuitar, and also started right from the beginning. And the more I learn the more I know I don’t know (and still a beginner)
wishing lots of fun and enjoyment with your guitar journey
Hi Celine, welcome to the community!
Yeah years of unguided learning for me too, in the past 7 years I’ve learned more than I ever thought possible!
Just work thoroughly through everything and learn what you didn’t know. Then learn the new skills you need to do what you want to do. That’s exactly what I did. Learning guitar can be a lifetime thing if you want to learn everything, but for me it was as needs must so I wasn’t freaked out by how much I needed to learn.
Good luck and most of all have fun!
Welcome Celine, loads of experience and support on this community. Just ask!
Welcome Celine. A good decision to start from the beginning to make sure you fill in any gaps.
Welcome to the Celine
Hey Celine, welcome to the forum, great to meet another kiwi. I’m married to one so I know how awesome kiwis are!
Hi Celine welcome to the forum!
'Nother kiwi here but on mainland.
You’ve found a cracking place to learn guitar.
Hi Celine, welcome to the community forum. I had voice and some piano lessons also, but guitar is its own world, there is so much that you can learn. Since you are a singer, I hope you have looked at some of Justin’s song lessons on the website. Justin teaches a lot in those lessons about the best way to enhance your playing for accompanying singing. Have fun singing and playing some of the songs that may be new to you on the website.
