You made some great progress - congrats on that! The bends in your final challenge are so much more confident and in tune compared to where to you started.
Thanks a lot, David! I worked hard on the bends right from the start. There’s still lots to get to grips with, but they definitely improved. ![]()
It’s a joy to see you post the journey, it’s an inspiration and what this place is all about
Can’t wait to see how you drop some elements of BLIM into your songs too!
Cheers
Ruaridh
They were all great Lisa!
There is really visible improvement between each video, and it’s obvious you’ve put a lot of work (play?) in. They got progessively smoother, and you seemed more relaxed.
It’s inspiring to see the before, during and after and your progress ![]()
Thanks for sharing

Thanks a lot for your kind words, Ruaridh. This part of the forum was inspirational to me as well, so I’m glad to give something back. In the end, we are all here to learn with and from each other. ![]()
I hope to get more fluency with little lead lines to incorporate into rhythm in the long run. But that’s a long road ahead. But maybe some blues spiced songs will come to life within the next months. ![]()
Thanks a lot for your kind words, Jasmine. I tried to at least play consistently over the duration of the course and get to grips with each of the units. Could have been more, but that’s life.
In the end, I enjoyed all the sessions and will keep digging the material for the next years. One major improvement for me personally, as you and others noticed, is the fact I’m way more relaxed while playing (and recording). Hopefully, I can keep the habit of regular recordings. ![]()

That’s night to day different from before to after!
Thanks a lot for your kind words, Molly! I really appreciate it. ![]()
@lisa_S This is great and a lot better than any of my own attempts.
Got me thinking how many people actually submitted videos during the various courses? Based on BLIM4 I’m guessing only about 10% ish overall,
I think that’s about right Stuart. It was similar in BLIM3 but I had the impression more submitted videos throughout that course. Unfortunately people seem to miss the point and opportunity of doing it IMO, and don’t do so due to fear of others seeing their playing and being self conscious.
I started doing videos in the main community AVOYP early on with JG around November 2024 only 3 or months after starting playing again. I have always got very nervous playing in front of others, and did experience stage fright 20 years ago when on a Music Performance course, but I have found taking time to make and post videos has helped greatly. What I quickly realised is the feedback from others in the community is very supportive and encouraging, the most important part being that if technique or aspects of my playing are not great I receive help and tips from guitarists more skilled than me. Sometimes JG teachers would review my playing as well.
It has become clear to me that this is one of the most powerful and important aspects of the JG community, it is free to all here, in two years I have seen no negative feedback to me or anyone else, only constructive and supportive criticism help people to improve. Having someone else see and hear you play guitar allows them to give advice on how to improve and even point out things you were not aware of. I did perform on the Live online feed for the BLIM3 graduation, I was still nervous but did it and was actually quite pleased and surprised by what I did when I watched back. I will eventually get the courage up to do a JG Open Mic.
I would highly recommend doing AVOYPs to anyone on JG and especially if you undertake BLIM or RIM in the future.
Thanks a lot Stuart, I appreciate your kind words. ![]()
Yes, this was my best guess as well. We were around 200 folks during the course and from what I saw, approximately 20 to 30 people were regularly posting videos. But that’s only guessing, not proven counts. ![]()
I think @AJSki2fly summed it up in a great way and I share lots of the positions and thoughts. The JGCommunity is definitely one of the most safe and supportive spaces and any kind of feedback given will be there to help one grow. Also frequent recording pays huge dividends in the end.
On the other hand, it will always remain a personal choice to share or not to share contributions which I definitely respect - no matter which decision any of our members will make. There are certainly good reasons not to share something and I am in no place to try to convince someone to do something, they are not comfortable with. It will always be an offer, but no force. ![]()
Hi Lisa, a bit late but I just can’t ‘only’ give a like to someone who has supported me so much… ![]()
![]()
It’s amazing to see what you have learned in that relatively short time… hearing about it too
, definitely with huge steps, but also so beautiful/goog to see…
in the first video (which I still remember well) I almost feel vicarious pain when I see your shoulder and whole arm being lifted in a sort of spasm
( forgive me saying this
) and the pressing up of your fingers… now in the latest one there are still some light movements you need to work on but sometimes not at all… so you know what to work on and I`m sure you continue with… ![]()
I really enjoyed it and think it’s amazing to see how fast it can go with the right dedication and awareness…
all the best

Hi Rogier,
no worries about late arrivals. My door is always open for my friends and I am happy to see you here!
![]()
That’s an accurate description, but at least it was not causing any pain to my shoulders (eyes are a different story)!
But yeah, it definitely looked awkward and it took some good amount of practice and time, to slowly decrease it. Still not 100 % there, yet, but I will keep on working on it until it’s gone for good. ![]()
No need to beg for forgiveness, you are totally right. ![]()
Thanks for your kind comment and encouraging words, Rogier!
Hopefully I will get some time to finally re-visit your learning log with a reply to your latest updates. Unfortunately still no lovely garden pics (our garden totally looks like a construction site
), but a few nice words I hope! ![]()
All the best to you, too! ![]()
Your stages of improvement were quite impressive! Good job! So happy for you in this accomplishment!
Thanks a lot for your kind words, Pam! It was tough and fun both at once and will be lifetime journey in the end. ![]()
