I take my hat of to you, I have tried to educate various family members in the benefits of Apple OS or Linux (which I have also used) only to get derision and argument because they think they know best or associates advice differently through ignorance, even though they have no expertise in IT at any level. I gave up with most, a couple did migrate and have not looked back.
Do you not recall that about 10 years or more ago you could buy plug in TV cards for computers which enabled TV function on it, in fact they may still be available. Effectively as I understand it a modern Smart TV is just an extension of that technology, somewhat improved, utilising modern computer Logic boards and GPU boards along with Internet connection capability and either a bespoke OS or some cloned version of one. I am simplifying it here as well, but that’s the basics of it I believe.
I tend to agree with you, but I am afraid the AI Genie is out of the bottle and I doubt anyone has a stopper big enough to get it back in any sense of what that would mean, plus there are too many despots and greedy individuals out there who will want to use it to their advantage without any rational control or thought into what may result.
Thank you. Derision and argument you say? Yep, been there. For me, the trick was not installing windows anymore after the last time it threw a tantrum. And showing them, at the same time, how stable and reliable my sytems were (and are).
And talking a lot about Linux helped too.

Hah, i’ve missed that or haven’t looked into it. Now that i think of it, i recall something like that, ages ago, but never gotten around using one.
Where i live, it wasn’t all that of a deal. The decoder we had, did all the heavy lifting. If you wanted to put another tv in another room, you could use a card, if i remember correctly.
But personally, i didn’t see many of those in the wild.
I’d like to think the stopper to be the bursting of the bubble. This doesn’t have to be a bad thing in the end. Maybe it could lead to more rational and more use cases that really benefit the people, instead of the burning shack it is now.
We’ll see what the future will bring.
I was using the Genie analogy for a specific reason, I am sure we all know stories and jokes about Genie granting 3 wishes to individuals, as each wish is requested the context or method of how it is granted is somewhat different to what the requestor was hoping for, and subsequent requests often make it worse and in some case irrecoverable after the last wish is granted. For me a major concern is not understanding what AI gives back but the full ramifications of following what it gives, and a complete lack of control to ensure the worst does not happen.
NO AI for me, thanks. It may be quicker, but is it accurate? I’ve seen too many incorrect AI answers online when I ask a simple music question about notes in a certain chord. I know enough to know AI is wrong in these instances. I prefer human thinking and connection to things. A machine will never know or be able to know how a human trying to learn something thinks. A machine cannot and will never be able to understand human emotion. A human teacher can see and hear frustration in someone’s learning process and try a different direction, and then see the light come on when the person they are teaching gets it. Some people see AI as a valuable tool. I see it as another way of allowing humans to be incapable of thinking for themselves. Contrary to the AI myth, AI does not save time. I know too many people who use AI for their daily work activities and end up working longer hours because of it. Sorry, wait, no I’m not, I’m not buying into this stuff. I know this is a guitar teaching site, so I’ll sign off now and go play the guitar from my own memory, with my own hands, using the techniques I learned on my own, using my brain, and really really enjoy the reward of having personally worked to achieve something!
I as well!! I do not realy get AI . Before we know it AI will be controling evan the smallest things. I will say tho, AI makes a whole lot of mistakes so the questions you ask wont always get the right answer. Just saying : dont always trust AI!!
