Looking for Friends- Intermediate Skills (sorta)

I am super excited to be part of the forum and blues immersion. I would grade my skills as “good enough for you to think I am good” so long as the “you” portion is not a guitar player. I have a very unstructured path here. 4 lessons in person my life. The rest online and tabs. Been at it over a decade, but my growth and desire has really accelerated in the past 3 years.

So anyone looking for a friend in this journey…hit me up. I am looking for friends too.

Welcome Zach, I too am a non-traditional learner when it comes to guitar, no one on one lessons. I have strictly learned from Justin’s guitar as well as video tutorials, but have only been at it for about 1 year. I have amassed around 250 hours of playing, noodling, and following structured lessons here. I have also just joined the Blues immersion course and am eager to meet new people to enjoy this journey with.

Hello Zach.

Somewhat traditional/non-traditional learner here. Traditional as in attending music school in the evenings and non-traditional as in doing what i want in the weekends, alongside my work for school.

I’m also on the lookout for new friends. Life’s too short not to.

Good to meet you all. Been playing for well over 10 years, definitely an intermediate player. Almost exclusively acoustic, bought an electric recently to use in the BLIM course, doing lots of blues bass runs on it getting used to palm muting and the sound of it through the amp. Really digging it and can’t wait for the next installment of lessons in January

Thanks Tony! I am not very good at palm muting, so I trust that will take some time. What kind of amp do you play out of?

What kind of music do you like to play? I really need to brush up on my theory. It makes sense, but I have to really focus and drill it b/c it is hard for me unless I focus.

@sbivens1 I am excited. I am doing all the prep now. Where are you from?

I made my way through PMT Level 3 yesterday, now I am working on a couple more modules today.
Originally from central NY. Now I live on a small island Vieques, Puerto Rico, east of mainland Puerto Rico.

Welcome Zach!
You’ve come to the right place for guitar and friendship :grinning_face_with_big_eyes:
Would you like me to add you to The Map?

Can someone explain the diamonds with the sharps and flats on it. I was confused by it.

Have you taken the course before? Any practice tips before we start to work on?

I’ve not taken the course before. At the moment I’m brushing up on my blues with this lesson

At the moment I have a Yamaha THR10C, it works well, hoping to upgrade to the Yamaha THR30 ii very soon

I’ve been purely acoustic for some nearly 14 years now. 60s rock and pop covers, a lot of folk music. More fingerstyle than strumming. I play every week for 3+ hours at a jam at the local men’s shed, there we often do 12 bar blues several times. Always wanted to get past rank beginner with the blues, that’s 2026 for me.

Hi Tony, this grade four module might be worth brushing up on if you have time before BLIM drops Unit 1.

Well, that’s somewhat broad. I like blues, rock, pop, grunge, metal and indie.
The kind of music we play at school are in these categories.
For instance, this year we did Bowie’s China Girl, or Deus’ Nothing really ends.
Next year, it’s Breezeblocks from Alt-J. And who nows what else.
So i have a broad interest in music, you might say.
