I went to my last guitar lesson of the year this morning

We lost time trying to fing my guitar cable … I forgot it in the room last week
I eventually found it ! ( I feared someone would have stole it )

we worked again on Il ya by J J goldman ( fingerstyle )

I showed him how I could play the Wonderful tonight riff
I learned it in fret 10
he was pleased that I could play it and then showed me how to play it in fret 12
now I need to relearn it

no more lessons with Marcus until september

its too hot to play today … so no more guitar for the day

Im trying to play a hybrid between the JG lesson grade 3 / Yousician / and the riff using > bends ( simple version all downs 4 )

Learning Quand la musique est bonne by J J Goldman / intro + verse / power chords

there’s a passage that I tried to transcribe in Wonderful tonight
no idea if Its correct

here is a video I recorded last month
I did not post it because there was some mistakes ( I let some strings ring when I did the barre chords and Im a bit slow on the last note )
but well … Its my current level so I will use it as a reminder of my level in May 2025
( sound is still muffled because of my tone knob )

so : The thrill is gone by BB King/ Yousician level 4

thank you ^^

well … its yousician so its easy to follow the notes , im not improvising !

whats was hard for me was keeping the speed and palm muting the strings
I did let some strings ring sometimes when the F barre was coming

I was glad to know that i can play this type of melody , my fingers follow the rythm ^^
Now I need to learn to improvise …

An excellent performance - one of your best! Confident, controlled and a steady tempo throughout.

thanks a lot ^^

there”s room for improvement if this is my best performance
I see and hear so many mistakes

but I did work hard on this one , especially learning to palm mute
I worked on it with my teacher

I noticed in the video that my right shoulder is way too high so I lowered my strap today and it was much better when I played

I was happy today cause I noticed improvement when I played Before you accuse me ( chunka chunka rythm ) and Merry christmas baby
I start to get B7 under my fingers

I definitely HATE power chords
I have no pleasure playing this and all my neighborhood must be hearing me swear like a truck driver

its going to be really hot for the next 4 days , I dont know if Ill be able to play until thursday or friday

:joy: This reminds me, when I finally reached them and thought, “ok these are those chords to make the walls move” but they didn’t tell me anything at first and I was kind of disappointed…the only thing I felt, was pain in my wrist. But the fun came later on!
Why do you hate them?

if its easy power chords like in Everybody hurts its ok
but when you start to do movable power chords with a bit of speed , or just power chords with speed … the damn fingers do not keep the shape or fell too close to the fret ( so the sound buzz a bit )
the fret sizes change depending where you re on the neck so you have to widen or tighten the shape of the fingers ( E5 to B5 for example … it gets worse if you change string ) it makes it even harder to keep the shape

Melodies are so much easier to play … or licks

Take it slow and gradually work up to the song tempo. I remember playing songs at 50% tempo when first learning PCs just to get them sounding clean and the changes accurate. Baby steps and a slow build then you’ll soon be rocking !

Just do what Toby said above. Like everything else, it will come with time!
You’ve come such a long way, those power chords won’t throw yo :hibiscus:u off!

@TheMadman_tobyjenner @Helen0609

Thats what I do for every song I learn
Power chords are just tougher , so its takes longer to learn the song and its frustrating

I didnt say I can t play them , I just notice that it is the technic with which I struggle the most
I have no fun at all playing power chords
Metal / hard rock music is really not for me ^^”

I never recorded a song with power chords , maybe I should
So I will maybe work again on Heaven by Brian Adams ( Yousician ) and record it

Hi Deborah

Well done, a good constant rhythm and song good soloing, I enjoyed the whole performance.

I have been trying to learn and play well the version of it on the Gibson app, played higher up the neck with slides on the chords and a riff between them, it’s tricky and I have yet to master it properly. :grimacing: The two solos are not too bad once you have got the staccato effect on the short notes.

Cheers

Adrian

thanks a lot

its a very simplified version of the song
there is another more difficult version later at a higher level
not for me yet , Ill wait
