Miam-miam! Des madeleines! ![]()
But they look really nice to me!
Hey, the kids get spoiled over there, here they only get “run-of-the mill” sweets from the grocery store.
I am happy to see that you found a new teacher who is willing to provide help in the areas that you ask for help. It is good that he is willing to start with Justin’s lessons and provide advice based on what you need to understand the techniques in Justin’s lessons.

Yes , this year its going to be madeleines and ghosts shaped cookies
I usually bake chocolate muffins but I wanted a change this year

thats because its the second test
I know now how to set the timer ^^
the first test was about how to cook them , the second test was about how big they should be
the third test will be about adding a bit of chocolate under the madeleines ^^
I never ate so many madeleines before ![]()

Halloween is not very famous in France , lots of people dont do anything
I have around 20 kids asking for sweets each year
I ve always thought that its the role of adults to make the children dream so I just love to decorate the house , put on my witch costume and bake cookies for the 20 kids who come
each of them will have a little bag with 4 sweets and 2 home made cookies ^^
the hardest part is to find a pumpkin to carve

thanks
yeah so far I ve been lucky with that teacher
He’s following my needs and not his own programme and I love it
and If I do not understand a lesson on JG he has no problem working on it with me
his advice on the lick ’n riff lesson was spot on !
so far my goals with him this year are :
- playing wonderdul tonight ( maybe not the full version but who knows )
I already made good progress on the song - transcribing
- starting to learn how to play a blues solo
So far Im really glad I left the music school
this guy has no diplomas but he knows the struggle of a beginner learning by himself !

I went to my guitar lesson this morning
today we worked on transcribing: five years by David Bowie
I made 2 mistakes
I thought the chord progression was G Em Am C and it was G Em A C
I also did not find a C in the song
for a first try Im kinda happy
the song was not difficult but I wasnt too far from the truth
After that we worked on improvisation
Am scale first position to begin
put a loop as a backing track and we played
What I learned from it is that I know the technics , I just do not dare using them
I should be more creative but keep it simple too
he also showed me a nice little scale exercise
so from now on I will do this exercice in my warm up and add some improvisation to my daily routine

I decided to not re new my subscription to Yousician next month
its time to change
I learned a lot with it : got some great fingers dexterity , not looking at the fretboard …
but Im fed up with the detection system telling you with green or red if you re doing a mistake
I dont need this
so next month I will take a subscription to Truefire
tried it for a while and it was great so Ill give it a longer try

My left leg hurt like crazy today so I thought I wouldnt be able to play today but in the end I managed to practice a bit
I realised that if I stop YS I will need guitar pro instead to learn songs
so I took a 7 day trial
I did not planed this in my budget ^^”
I hope the black friday sales will help
Here is a recording of Hallowed by thy name by Iron maiden on YS
power chords ( how I hate them ! )
There are some mistakes ( bad landing ) but I dont think I can do any better at this point
It would need more time to refine it and record it again but since I want to reduce my time on YS , I ll keep this one
what do you think ?
Deborah
Very well played: keeping good time throughout. The piece itself offers little dynamic variation so the performance hasn’t got much colour to it. I don’t think the piece is very musical but may still be a good exercise in time keeping and varied strums / picks.
Brian
Im known for my hate against power chords

thanks for listening to the recording @beejay56 ^^
as you say it wasn t a musical piece but I played it as an exercise
I got a little better at power chords thanks to it
Really well played on your Iron Maiden track. I know you wanted perfection but honestly whatever mistakes there might have been weren’t obvious to me. I also think perfection is a really high bar on a song that’s over 7 minutes long and by no means a simple song, even at level 5 on Yousician. I think it’s easy to get stuck chasing perfection and once you’re at 95%+ there’s really small gains to be had versus moving on to the next thing.
I agree with you
thats why I posted it as it is
and thats also why I ll stop using YS , it just drives me mad ![]()
thanks for listening to the recording ^^

Trying the free lesson of the new solo blues course : Boom Bass With Licks
The blood clot is gone but the doc said I should have a surgery and remove the bad veins ![]()
and the sciatica pain is horrible lately
My GP put me under painkillers ( Ibuprofene 400 mg ) for 5 days , but I can still feel the pain
its as if the pain is muted but not completely
I went to my guitar lesson this morning
Havent been able to play the last few days
The Ibuprofen made me sick ![]()
I felt so bad that I took a few days off … worse of all … the pain did not go away , I could still feel it
It hurt less but it still hurt
I dont take it anymore so my stomach should feel better in the days to come , but with an aching leg
So today we worked on Wonderful tonight with my teacher
we worked untill the second chorus and added the little transition in the melody
In Justin’s video (grade 3 ) , the first step is to learn the song in open chords which I did
My initial goal was to play the song that way and add the riff using bends
but my teacher think that I should try to learn the picking pattern
so my new exercice for the next 2 weeks is to learn to picking pattern for the first verse and maybe the second if it goes well
he’s pushing farther than I would go on my own
I also asked my teacher an advice on the Lick’n riff lesson ( module 18 )
He showed me how to play the problematic part and now I just need to practice it
( in fact I was just missing an all open strings strum )
i wasnt able to play but I could draw so I started working on my annual christmas card
now I need to finish it and play
Ill be busy ^^”
Wow, you’re hanging in there, well done for your perseverance!!!
