Wow! Yes! She is great! Thank you
I’ve just realised that there are many suggestions it would be very hard NOT to agree with… It’s just that some names don’t always come to mind immediately. Putting aside my initial favourites, I also like and appreciate many of those mentioned later, e.g. Andy Summers, Dominic Miller or Alex Lifeson. Tal Wilkenfeld is quite a special person. Played with the greats such as Jeff Beck and… Herbie Hancock which means she feels equally comfortable in very different genres of music.
Grateful for your response
Tomasz
Hi Tomasz,
Slightly surprised that you mention Jan Akkerman, I have never met a Dutch or Belgian person who calls himself even an average music lover and does not call this guitarist the best in the Netherlands…so definitely not underrated here … but it’s nice that you put a light on it
Greetings
I listened to Focus many, many years ago… I even remember playing ‘Sylvia’ with my band when I was 27-28… Now I love Akkerman’s instrumental rendering of the song “Am I losing you”, a version so inspiring that I’m going to record it myself from scratch and, if it comes out fine, may even publish it here
Thanks for your input
If you know, you know.
I’d say Vince Gill is under rated. He’s very good
Certainly agree with all the great names mentioned. Only one I would add is Steve Lukather of Toto fame but played on over 2000 songs/albums in his 40 yr career as the 1st call session player.
Oz Noy
Dweezil Zappa
Tal is not under rated. She’s at the top of the mountain.
Interesting, to me it seemed the other people on stage were in sleepwalking mode. Maybe Prince took the life force out of them all?
Yea, the guitar work on their early albums was stellar.
I have many favourite guitar players. The very most fav of mine is David Rawlings of the Gillian Welch duo.
