Oh, I forgot to add that Justin’s app is a good resource to enhance the experience - it has a “guitar karaoke” play-along feature that has truly helped me play better. That, along with a built-in tuner, chord charts for the songs, the ability to slow songs down to a manageable speed… it’s really good & not unreasonably priced for what you get. I highly recommend for the first 3 grades!
…I’d say yes, that’s a great idea! Another great idea is Tod’s recommendation to keep your guitar at hand if at all possible. It’s amazing what a hurdle it can be when you only have a couple of minutes, and you have to take it out of the case first.
I third that remark. In fact, I bought a Taylor mini to hang right at the entry of my walk in closet, so I go by it coming and going and grab it virtually multiple times per day… here a lick, there a lick, everywhere a lick and a lick. My wife and kids hate me. But, my wife did give a big compliment to me about 7 months ago…she said, “I am starting to recognize a few songs that you are playing. Keep it up.”
Thank God my kids all moved out years ago… I only have to worry about my wife!!!
My solution…
Play my telecaster but DON’T PLUG IT IN… NOBODY WILL HEAR YOU - except my dogs still run from the room when they see me reaching for the Tele!!!
Hi @Coco66 ,welcome here and I wish you a lot of fun
and after reading this thread you haven’t played the guitar for a long time…now let’s get back to playing quickly
Greetings,Rogier
Hi @Coco66, welcome to the large old dog pound at Justin guitar. You will find accountability and good ideas from this forum, and more valuably, global friendships. Also as Tod @CATMAN62 suggests, get a nice stand to keep your guitar always within reach. (I think Tod is the official spokesman for the guitar stand industry.)
But remember, it’s winter time for a lot of us, and our homes have too low relative humidity to safely leave guitars sitting out. It’s 35% in my house right now, and my guitars are in their cases with humidification devices.
I’m not a spontaneous type of person anyway. I have a specific time of day for guitar. Even when they stay in stands during warmer months, I never just grab one and fiddle around for a few minutes.
Hello @Coco66 It’s great to have you join us for some fun and frolics and more. I have added you to the ever expanding kennel in post 1. You’re now an official old dog.
Hello everyone, Frenchie here almost 63 and starting my fifth year playing electric guitar. I must confess that my soloing is not up to par…and this is what I am looking to improve during this BLIM2 session. Really looking forward to it all and very motivated. Wish everyone a happy New Year and can’t wait to start on the 6th. Cheers from Canada.
Hi Everyone,
I think I’ve found my group! I just turned 64, have never played an instrument other than a failed attempt at the violin in 2nd grade and always wanted to play the guitar. Looking forward to seeing what, if any success I have! As an early retirement gift, I bought an Orangewood Oliver which I’m loving! My goal is to practice every day, even if it’s just just for 10 minutes!
Peace out!
Paul
