Open Mic Tech Talk - How to Setup Zoom

I can’t find it either :frowning:

Using the Linux client.

Not sure how it works on linux but you don’t need premium. You click little arrow near your microphone icon while on meeting, go to Audio settings at the bottom, under Music and Professional Audio you hit Show in meeting option to enable Original Sound.

That’s not shown in my UI :frowning:

what happens when you go over to advanced settings?

just checked this Iain:

Hi @appalloosa-cob, it looks like from the 5.5.0 release, you are able to share mono or stereo sound. When sharing content and wanting to share computer sound as well, users can select between mono or stereo audio. Only the user sharing their audio will need to be utilizing this client version or higher.

However, within the Client settings under ‘Audio’, it doesn’t sound like you have the settings for ‘Music and Professional Audio’ on Linux.

Unfortunately, original sound and stereo aren’t currently supported on our Linux client at the moment. Feel free to mention your request for this feature as it definitely helps for us to see this within the near future. You can send your feedback to: Feedback - Zoom

I appreciate the reply, but all of this seems to be directed toward laptop users. I am using an iPad while I am traveling and there seems to be no way to change any input settings either on the Browser based Zoom or the App. I travel for a living and as a result am not able to carry a lot of gear with me. Running my guitar through GarageBand seems to require the least amount of gear, and has been compatible (able to run simultaneously) with Browsers, YouTube, Spotify, etc. But ZOOM will not allow GarageBand to run simultaneously on the iPad. So I am looking for a solution specifically for iPad OS if one exists. Thanks in advance fo the response.

FYI for all others, Zoom made a change to setting which puzzled me for a bit yesterday with regards to noise suppresion! Remember folks to do this in following way:

  1. Go to settings before you join the meeting
  2. Go to Audio settings on the left
  3. First you MUST select Removing Noise in the background option and select Low
  4. Only then you can select option to Original Musicians Sound

If you skip step 3, even if you select Original Sound, it will keep noise suppressing your sound. How annyoing isn’t it?!

Thanks for this Adi. Is point 4 still in the Audio Settings and you still have to select OMS once the meeting has started ? Hopefully, this might address OMS dropping out now and then.

@Richard_close2u maybe worth tagging Adi’s post when you send out the OM Performer and Audience DMs for the next show ?

:sunglasses:

Hi Tobe, both in audio settings, and you can do it during the meeting, but if you do it beforehand from main zoom settings you won’t have to do it twice (or more)

I don’t see this option in my Audio settings, presumably because I haven’t done a Zoom update lately. I did do a Zoom test with my sister a couple days ago because I haven’t played at a Zoom OM for awhile, and I wanted to make sure I still knew how it worked, and my sister said the sound was fine. I used the regular option to tick On for Original Sound for Musicians.

Any input into whether I should leave well enough alone and not update Zoom right now (my preferred option), or if I should update Zoom and then presumably what you show above will be a Setting I can choose?

As a note, I’m generally not too quick to accept software updates because I’ve been burned a few times on updating Accounting Software and then a couple weeks later after they’ve done all the fixes from the bugs they finally realized were there I had more work to do to update the update. When I realized that if I just waited there would be less issues, I decided to just wait until I pretty much had no choice for software updates!

This is my settings in Zoom:

These look like settings pre update Mari, I don’t think with latest update anything really exciting came up, so stick with what you got.

BUT if it forces you to upgrade keep in mind my instructions above

Hi Mari, I also have been burned by software updates, but I make an exception for Zoom. It can be very difficult for hosts to troubleshoot issues, and sometimes to even describe where things are on the screen, when participants are using different versions of the Zoom client. So far I haven’t experienced any issues with Zoom - of course, now I’ve jinxed it!

Hopefully not!! lol

Wonder if this only appears on subscription Zoom. Normally update when prompted but see this, opposed to #3 in your post. Guess

If I chose ZBNR I lose OSFM !!

Thats the setting view Toby, if you select Zoom background noise removal and its saying auto, it will still noise suppress even if you change to OMS. Make sure to tweak it to low and only then to OMS.

OK set this

Then this

Be a while before I do another JGC OM, so will wait to see what happens. Likely to have changed again by then !

Does ‘echo cancellation’ do anything dire to the audio? I’m audience only in case that affects anything.

It just cuts instruments out, so audience hears muffled sound instead of nice and crisp
