Performing covers at open mic /w backing track BAD?

I was going to play my the solos live with own rhythm recorded in the backing track.
I’m in an area with a lot of music, but it’s a small town and most of the OM are just an acoustic and a mic.
I guess I’m just dreaming too much here. Better get back to Earth and see where I can fit it or not…

I have seen solo performer acts playing as you describe.
Just one person singing and playing live guitar, rhythm during the main parts and solos when they come.
All with backing tracks as accompaniment.
I’m unsure how their backing tracks were created.
It may be possible the entire backing tracks were pre-recorded and bought / acquired from some source.
These performers then plugged the audio into their mixer to go through their pa.
They were booked performers playing at small bars.
They were not playing a couple of songs at an open mic.

Why not ‘test-drive’ whatever you would like to try out with a supportive, helpful and knowledgeable audience?
Right here?
Set up whichever way you want and just share a mobile phone/webcam recording in AVOYP, asking for feedback/suggestions.
Or go one step further and sign up for one of our open mics to see how you get on.
I’m sure you’d get a lot of practical advice

@joebelter

I ve always used backing tracks in my AVOYPS with no issues

I will ( try ) to participate in the next OM here using backing tracks too
the sound of the backing track will not be as good as in an AVOYP because of my set up but so far I dont understand whats the problem with using a backing track …

if you need one just use it

I think this question relates more to real-world OMs rather than anything online within this community where backing tracks etc are generally accepted I think

true , but there are surely ways to use a BT too

This whole reply thread has been fantastic!!
Now I just need to figure out what the heck in going to do now that I’m going to sing and will have to step down a little.
Not sure what a capo is going to do to my songs!
