To me the immersion part of the course was the listening to the playlists over and over again.
I would say that BLIM pretty much covers everything in the Grade 4 Blues Lead 1 module, Grade 6 Blues Lead 2 and 3 modules rhythm 1 module.
Or you could follow along as best as you can. There were a few folk in C1 that worked along there own pace. Some folk even paid a nominal fee to enrol in the following class.
There were a few hundred students in class 1 and I suspect that the majority of them were doing the course at their own pace. Most of them were not actively engaged in the community space every month.
@roger_holland Thanks for your long answer, Rogier, very appreciated! Thanks for the good advive and for sharing your experience!
That is good to read. Apart from my limitations, I also like a bit of variety and the chance to practice something else too.
I’m to a 100% sure, that this course is worth every cent and a fantastic tool to learn. It’s quite a bit of money, but very well invested, at least, that’s what I think. My doubts are not about the money - it’s more about myself and the ability to follow the course and to give my 100% .
Thanks again!
Mindful listening . I definitely see the value but this alone takes quite a lot of time.
I assumed, one initial benefit of the course should be some kind of interaction / communication / personal commitment / classwork / being part of the big thing / sharing recordings, etc. At least that was what I understood, when BLIM 1 was released. And I wasn’t sure, if I could take this with my limited energy on top of following the course.
Ok. Didn’t know it was so many! So I would be just one amongst many, following my own pace.
It seems to me that one of the selling points for BLIM is the support given by Justin and his team to students. That support is given through the community group and is only there for the 6 month duration of the course.
It appears the majority of students aren’t taking advantage of that support and are looking at the course as more of a lifetime thing and so taking it at an easy pace.
I’m thinking that’s maybe not the right approach.
Obviously, I don’t know what’s in the course and Justin says it takes years to properly learn it and I’m pretty darn sure I won’t be a seriously improved player after only 6 months. But…… maybe a better approach would be to have a good go at each monthly unit and ask questions along the way and then move to the next unit as soon as it appears. That way, you’ve taken advantage of the support available for the whole course and then you can go back over it all again at your own pace for however long you need to.
I feel like it makes it more engaging to see Justin release new videos every month and see classmates on the community reacting to them. Read some of their posts and see that they have similar struggles as you. Share tips.
But, even if you fall a little behind on the new material, you can still read those messages later.
Well, that’s a good point. Though, I think it’s a risk for anyone.
I did follow the monthly schedule. During the course, I did not have many questions for the teacher as most of my time was spent on the technical side - putting my fingers in the right place or watching the videos Most of my theorical questions arrived too late (after the course, during the consolidation period).
I mean, to be completely honest, I had some complex technical questions, but they were not easy to ask on an online forum.
Yes, if you have the time, that’s definitely a good idea as that’s the approach which is recommended by Justin. Try each unit and move on even if you did not master everything or watched every video. And use the consolidation at the end to revisit the missing stuff.
Pretty much what our study group did AND many individuals. It was hard work keeping on top of and trying to learn all the material for each Unit in 4 weeks and just like the grade system, you will always end up with “carried forward” items, you need to keep working on but this, for me and the rest of the BBP, was the way to go.
Post BLIM ? Years of consolidation but that is part and parcel of trying to learn this lump of wood n wires ! Wouldn’t have it any other way.
If you sign up and with the advanced knowledge that Study Groups are a “suggested” part of the package if you choose, look out for folk you already know and have some knowledge of from the Community. You will hit the ground running and not spend 6 months trying figure all that out. And keep it small 6 to 10 people and communicate via DMs and give one and other 100% support at all times. And use the BLIM boards to discuss issues, concerns and general course work with the larger community of folks who are in your class.
That is how I pulled the BBP together, folk I knew and trusted from day one, as I’d known them for years. Selfish, insular, “exclusive” but at $500 before “offers” I wanted the maximum impact and opportunity. Did it ruffle feathers because I didn’t invite “strangers” ? Heck yeah but I’d not change a thing and doubt my fellow posse peeps would either. You have to maximise the opportunities from day one.
But we are all different and your mileage may vary. One size doesn’t fit all but I know what works for me and what worked for me and . . . . we are all still studying together !!
Feel free to take from this what suits you. As I say we are all different.
Guess the standards to learn in the next unit before it drops and how many hours will it be since the unit drops before Shane posts a recording of the lick medley.
All I would say is don’t expect Justin to respond to every question and recording. You will get a lot of support from your fellow students and Richard was great (I’m sure he watched and responded to every recording).
Absolutely. My blues guitar learning is still going strong whilst consolidating the things that I have learned through BLIM. Always new things to learn and always existing competencies/knowledge to maintain. BLIM fuelled this blues journey.
Absolutely, I wouldn’t have it any other way. #BBP
I’ve bought a few intermediate blues courses from other teachers since completing Blues Immersion, but haven’t finished any of them. Most throw a 5-minute video at you and expect you to know all triads on the fretboard before moving to the next lesson. Blues Immersion is way more gradual, with multiple videos each month. Plus, the teacher’s super cool — makes it easy to stay motivated. I hope Justin is cooking us another great course like that for the intermediate grades
For anyone thinking of doing the course; a few straight up points;
Be confident you meet the minimum criteria comfortably. You dont want to be devoting time to basic pre-requisites.
Do some regular Blues practice/ revision in the lead up to the course; and be familiar with the course outline before you start. You want to be hitting this course on the run. You’re allocating a fair sum of money; it makes sense to do your due diligence.
For those concerned about the time factor. Simply replace your practice routine with the Blues course practice items. You’ll be incorporating alot of general skills and concepts on top of the Blues-centric stuff anyway. So its not like you’ll be ‘abandoning’ your practice routine.
This is a great course. Its well thought out and well put together; but there seems to a fair bit of the old ‘Fear Of Missing Out’ syndrome. There’s no ‘secret sauce’ in this course that’ll make you a Blues master in 6 months.
Rather, there’s just solid, structured Blues concepts, skills, and playing examples that’ll give you a great leg-up into your Blues journey.
Immerse yourself, and you’ll be a better player on the other side.
Remember, you have lifetime access. Revisit at your own leisure to consolidate if you wish. The content is never going to be out-dated.
Well fortunately the fact is that is that the BLIM topics are still open and until a specified time this was also reported in advance, but since it is not busy I think this would remain that way for quite a long time and perhaps forever … and Richard or other people from the team are willing to continue to respond to questions and comments for a long time and knowing Richard this millennium certainly

Thanks to all of you for giving helpful and precious advice and for the willingness to share your individual experiences with us. Really helpful ideas and assessments have been shared, I highly appreciate this.
I still have enough time to reflect on everything that has been said. I’ve always planned to get a solid basis for BLIM beforehand anyway. I now have an idea how to get the most out of it. Although, due to the given circumstances, healthwise, I will probably have to become satisfied with less than those achievable “100%”. But that’s my own hurdle to take and I’m convinced, even then, BLIM might be one of the best options out there. Even if it’ll take me a lifetime .
Ah, so you still have access to the BLIM1 community.
Perhaps an idea would be to amalgamate the BLIM communities once each class has ended. So when BLIM2 finishes they will join those from BLIM1
That way, the AfterBlim community will grow with time and those who have completed the course will be able to discuss it with old friends and new.
There was always a plan for when C1 and C2 finished to have a joint section. Then C3 would have a clean message board before joining C1 and C2. Whether that comes to fruition we will have to wait and find out.
And you will always have the support outside of the BLIM community sections.
This is a very good idea, although there is a risk that the lessons that are added/adjusted later, etc., do not match the videos that, for example, group 1 has seen and this could cause confusion… I expected that class 1 would be able to see the updated videos and class 2 again from 3, etc. … but I can and could also imagine that this is technically quite a challenge, but the first idea remains a good one.
ooo James knows more
no one tells me anything
When are the rest of the blues solos coming James?
I thought you were a blues solo beta tester. They were supposed to be released ages ago. Maybe Justin’s seen another squirrel and working on something else now like his new album.
