@jkahn That explains why I have not listened to them, JK, 1+1=0
Am I right that Joe Morello is the guitarist in RATM … no Google reminds me that he is a great jazz drummer that I heard as a kid, and the guitarist is Tom. I think I saw him playing a version of the Game of Thrones theme on those incredible Fender GoT Signature guitars.
Quite different to delta blues, Rob Now that is much more my cuppa bourbon.
Well I pride myself on being open to listen to a recommended album that is highly recommended, even if the genre not my normal thing Rob.
I’m not subscribed to any of these music streaming services (still old-fashioned and listen to music on my iPod, which limits discovery and exploration of different music). But I’ve found an upload on YT. Just finished a listen to a Jeff Beck album, so will give this a listen next.
Hi Rob, Happy Justin Guitar Anniversary! I watched some of the guitar videos of Tommy Morelos in MasterClass and is very interesting the alternative guitar playing he does.
I gave it a listen, Rob. I confess I got side-tracked around track 7 and didn’t go back for the rest.
For sure Tom Morello is a top drawer player. I did enjoy some of the tracks some of the time in terms of the guitar parts. But some was just too much of that metal sound that doesn’t appeal to me and also there were bits and bobs I assume were played on guitar but were just a little over processed and sound-effect like for my taste.
The vocal really doesn’t do anything for me. I thought about this and don’t think it is the rapping per se but the whole deal. And I know what I say now is probably what appeals to folk. For me there is just too much anger and aggro in the delivery and the level of profanity. I get that some of the songs deal with real social issues that can provoke strong emotions. But that plus the metal sound is a turn-off for me.
I think artists have confronted social issues in their music always. But the artists I enjoy when performing such songs do it in a way I find more palatable. Maybe I am just getting old and not appreciative of this generation.
Maybe this is one of those generational, what I grow up on things. I enjoy the British Big 3 and no at least Sabbath is considered metal. I now appreciate that metal covers a range of flavours. I guess I am more into rock than metal.
Not sure about ‘all time’. Maybe at a moment in time, within a genre. Perhaps influential might be a more apt desciption. If indeed it was influential (I have no idea) on this sub-genre of metal. I think Sabbath’s early albums can be considered influential, being significant in the inspiration and shaping of metal music to come.
I can imagine some of the guitar would be fun to play.
When all is said and done, thanks for the nudge to listen. I’ve known of the band but never listened before. Now at least I have and can have an informed opinion on them, albeit based on but a half an album.
Ok so discovered my amp sim software (bias fx2) now has a ‘Rewind’ function so you can record the last 5-15min of play on a loop, quick edit and save it.
So heres tonights practice of Whispered the Winter Witch , its not exactly perfect some of the odd pauses are me turning pages over on a pdf haha dont have it all committed to memory
Hi Rob,
That was a long song,…but for me it’s completely worth listening to ,…and I can think of enough things for today that it’s on in the background again,…great and thanks,…
Greetings,…
Hi,
I think it’s better than how you describe it,…thumbs up , it’s super long to execute perfectly all this time ,…I’m already struggling with Greensleeves of a little less(?) than a minute, … keep it up
Greetings,…
Sounding great Rob! Wow that’s a lot to take on board! Are you following a tab or is that all from memory? Either way, very impressive!
Also that acoustic sounds divine!
