Sclay's Learning Log

hey Shane,

just a quick note and only skim read the bits above on the string changes. I did my FIRST string change after 10 months  had some issues… broke the string… but anyway that’s a different story.

During my “research” apparently there’s a hybrid set of strings that might be worth your time to try. I didn’t because it was my first string change and I just wanted to do a like for like on my guitar.

Anyway there’s such thing as 9-46’s hybrid strings to give you the same standard heavier strings and easier bends or the higher strings.

Just thought i’d share what i read if you were thinking there might be something in between worth trying next time you change strings

As for how that impacts all the other setup, can’t say I can comment.

Cheers,

Ben

Yeah thanks Ben.
Yep, I’m aware of the ‘hybrid’ versions with the heavier bass strings.
The thing I like about the lighter 42s is they clean up a bit of that ‘muddy’ feel that one can sometimes get with the 46s; depending I suppose on your playing style, and your choice of music.
Hope all is going well with you my friend.

Interesting read Shane. A while ago I started swapping out some of the stable that were 10s by default to 9.5 and they became much more playable. Contemplated a full drop to 9s but found this a happy compromise. Likely to drop the ones still wearing 10s down to 9.5 at the next change. And yeah ain’t intonation fun!

Yeah mate, thanks for the read. After a few months, I’m now pretty settled on the 9s.

But yeah, I thought I was too lucky initially , not having to touch the intonation/relief/ action, but they all ‘got me’ in the end.
All sweet now though.

Hope all is well my friend.

Thats fantastic! May I ask where you found the tablature youre using? Thanks in advance. Nice to meet you by the way.

Hey Scott,

Not sure what post/ tablature you are referencing.

For “Hurts So Good.”

Wow, that’s going back. I think that was my very first AVOYP.
Great tune.
As it was my first, I remember exactly where I got the inspiration from. This guy has a few good demos, although I haven’t seen him around in a while.
