Scott's Progression

Thanks for the tips and the encouragement! Makes sense about plugging in, I should (and shall) do it more often…trying to get in sync was why I slowed it down. But the play through was cold, I should have played for a while and then recorded after I’d warmed up.

Playing with the metronome feels really mechanical and unnatural, until all of a sudden it clicks and suddenly it feels effortless and musical. You’re doing a great job of putting in the work. It will definitely pay off.

Still trying. here’s my latest rendition @ 100bpm still. Better, I think? But not good… https://youtu.be/73Jh8GVljsk

Up to @105bpm and feeling the timing better. Satisfaction @105bpm

Coming along Scott.
My advice. You’re tilting your guitar so that you can watch your fretting fingers. Bad habit. When you come to learning barre chords this position will make things difficult. Get the guitar into a more vertical position and train yourself to only look occasionally at your fingers. Of course when learning you need to look at your fingers but try to minimise it and be aware that it’s habit to get out of.

Thanks. I think it’s the seat and recording position. I did notice when I watched back, it seemed extreme. I wasn’t aware I was doing that - so thanks!

I’ll post some playing evidence of progress sometime soon…
I’m way off my goal of ten songs this year. I have one. By which I mean, I can pick up the guitar and play and sing right through the song without visual aids. The Gary Jules version of Mad World.
I can play along with Satisfaction and Roll with it but not sing along, and I don’t like either song enough to want to try.
I can do Wish You Were Here with someone else singing, but not the second solo yet.
I’m close with Losing My Religion, Everybody Hurts and This Year’s Love - but the rythme only, no fancy melody riffs and no singing.
I’m also about to build a thinline tele, a headless guitar and a 3D printed Les Paul. And maybe buy a 12 string Baton Rouge. (Though I just saw a lovely Maton…)
Starting a month-long Blues intro course - 10 minutes a day +practice - on Monday. And starting on Mr Blue Sky, ELO with my guitar teacher next week.
Also trying to get power chords working and the notes on the bottom two strings down which I’ve never really done before.

I’ve listened to your advice and play plugged in now. I also got myself a Fender Mustang microphone amp adapter - any excuse to get more ‘essential’ gear.

@scottasaigon Nice! I happened to be playing my electric turned up way louder today. It’s a great way to really refine touch, accuracy, and dynamics.

Glad to see that you’re continuing to progress!
