David if youāre actually after something to build loops on then I wouldnāt buy the multifx at allā¦Iād buy a looper. Most multifx - particularly at the budget end - still have a very short looperā¦really 30 seconds is nothing. You would be better to buy a ābudgetā looperā¦I agree that one with more than one button is best. You really donāt want to be doing multi button presses to stop and start things. Obviously as Iām sure you are aware the key thing to look at is how you connect said looper to your amp! Ideally (if you are going to use fx on the amp) then youād want your amp to have a fx loop.
If you are going down the multifx route AND you still want to use your amp for the amplification then look at it carefullyā¦if the multifx supports amp/cab modelling this doesnāt always sound that great going into the front of an ampā¦fine generally if youāve got a power amp input on your amp (bypassing the preamp) and can disable any CAB emulationā¦BUT something to consider.
Perhaps the biggest issue for me is that Iād be playing away from the PC. So keeping it simple and making BTs in Reaper will probably do the job for me.
@Rossco01 Thanks for sharing your thoughts. This is really to enable some simple practice. I am thinking that in time a simple looper will be my preference. For now Iāll make a simple BT to practice over. I can use the same one I used when learning the Blues Study.
Hey David I have a TC Ditto sitting around gathering dust on the shelf. Iāll gladly send it over your way as a late Christmas present to get your collection started
BTW we should definitely discuss organizing a Secret Santa thing for the Community next year, would be so much fun!
Thinking about Behringer, how is everyone in u.k. finding Thomman prices now weāre out of the single market? I havenāt found them obviously competitive anymore.
I got a Boss rc10r and while it is a bit more expensive, you get a few things which are really useful like drum machine that gets synced with your loops, different typ of drums but alos intros and outros. After the firmware upgrade it has been really fun to play with it. Give it a thought.
I personally found the Zoom and the Boss multieffects to be so-so but Ampero seems to be really good for the price. If one wants to go up in the proce range, Pod Go, HX stomp, and possibly Mooer products are really good.
Possibly not the right suggestion for you, but for what concerns OD why not build one yourself? I built an Anasound OD and it has been quite fun, I learned something in the process. Obviously, all depends if you like to solder, but It is fun.
To keep it short, I said āyesā to Ivanās most generous offer. A month later I am happy to say that my concerns about the South African postal service proved unfounded. I have just returned from the local Post Office with the looper in hand. Customs and handling came in at ā¬16.
Now to take a look at all the 9V adapters I have floating about to see if one has the right spec to power this device. Then I need to get myself a second guitar lead. Then I can try this out and discover exactly how hard it is to keep good time while playing and start and stop the looper at the right moment.
Before you ask, once I get to the point where I wonāt totally embarrass myself then I will make some simple phone recordings of me trying to lay down rhythm backing and noodle lead over it.
One more time I have to say that your offer blew me away, and words remain inadequate to express my gratitude and appreciation at your thoughtfulness and generosity, Ivan
Really happy to hear that you finally have it in hand David, thanks so much for the update! Excited to see what you come up with, hope it proves to be a useful practice tool and brings you lots of joy for years to come.
