Set Lists

Is there a ‘magfic formula’ for compiling a set list? Obviously it should have songs that match the audience. I would think that it should be like a story, I.E a start, middle and finish.

This is my initial view (I have never compiled a set list before) is that the start should be loud and fast to grab your audience.

The end should be a song thaqt leaves the audience saying, ‘that was fun/great’ etc. I am not sure if you should leave on a slow number or a rocking number.

The middle is more of a problem do you do a numbert of fast followed by a number of slow, followed by a number of fast?

I realise that this is all subjective, and the songs change on the night, but I am trying to sort out a base set list

Any advice would be appreciated. I am lucky that it will be dicussed with my band mate, who is far more experiencred than me, before anything is made final, but he said have a go at it and see where it goes.

Hi Tony,
I think Lieven wrote it down well here…have fun with it :sunglasses:

Good idea. It’s the opposite of what I do. I play something slow and easy to settle my nerves.
